Single or double depends on load carrying capacity and design, comes back again to knowing what the boat weighs, with normal gear, full fuel and number persons typically on board. I'd add 10% - 15% to whatever that number is to ensure a margin of safety.

I'm with the others, no sense in spending anything on that trailer. You'll be $$$ ahead replacing it with one that fits the boat correctly, has surge brakes, and is rated for the load. [wink]

Quick and easy for single vs double axel. Single axel turns much faster and is more maneuverable. Double axel is better for towing in a straight line. They also go through tires faster backing and turning. You can buy a trailer with either single or double, regardless of the weight, trailer axels come in many sizes. Tires can run quite a bit more for a heavy single axel which is why many folks think you need a double axel to carry anything over about 3,000#. I had a choice of single or double when I bought my boat, I opted for the single because I launch in a lot of stupid tight places on the river and its good to be able to turn on a dime. That's not really a concern for someone who will be using a nice established ramp. Tires are the other big part of the trailer. Trailer tires are not the same as car or truck tires. As with any tires good ones are expensive. With a single axel trailer, I never scrimp on tires, its a really scary feeling when you have a blow out on a heavy trailer, boat or not and you'll probably need some clean shorts and cleanup on the seat.
