Homebuilt boats

Post by Gisteppo » Wed May 20, 2009 1:51 pm

In light of some recent posts, I just wanted to see how many of us are actually building or rebuilding our own boats.

Post up your photos!

Mine is a bit of a fleet because I can't sit still.

There are several others (canoes and beater rowboats) which are all built for less than $100 and not worthy of photography.

Hopefully some people get some inspiration to build their next boat if we share enough information about the process. Especially those that use float tubes, those boats are expensive for what they are and HORRIBLY INEFFICIENT rowing craft, that can be replaced by much better boats at lower costs with your own two hands and normal construction tools.

LOL, I did a 12 footer and a 14 footer, re-built Aluminum, but if I have photos of those long ago boats, I'd be afraid to show them.

You, on the other hand, do great work.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

G,

awesome boats there. I have been looking at pram designs, because you are right, my belly boat is a ***** to kick around all day, and I am in pretty good shape.

What do you use that first boat for, what type of hull would you call that? Awesome boats.

G,

What are the dimensions of the tug? I can't tell if it's like an optical illusion or not, but it is just dwarfed by the boat it is pulling.

Clam, its a scaled down lobster boat hull, but nowadays they call em downeast picnic boats. This one is set up to be a "pimping" boat, where we can seat up to 10 for cruising. Makes a great bass fishing boat as well. We can cruise for a month between fuel fill-ups, as I rarely burn more than 2 gallons of gas an hour. Pretty sweet, but not quite ideal for the ocean (no scuppers, lots of open space to fill with waves).

As for a fishing boat, start a thread like "fishing pram" or something and we can sniff out a good design that meets your needs.

Q, the tug is 9 feet long. The entire bottom of the boat fits on a single sheet of plywood. That is no optical illusion, she's 4 ft wide, and has pulled MANY boats out of the mud, towed back to docks, etc.

Here it is when the neighbor's kid was having a birthday party:

Swede, Im not taking any fashion advice from the king of HAMMER PANTS~!

Thanks for the kind words.
