Just got back from another day of trolling.

Fished at Lake Sawyer today. I was able to find some 4# trolling weights at Cabelas.

I was on the south end of the lake. So I tied up a flatfish and try to troll it. But it kept spinning and creating all sorts of line twist. Giving me a headache trying to fix it constantly.

So I swapped it out for a gold 1/4 kastmaster. Only a few mins later, BOING! I grab the rod to set the hook and then I see a big fish jump and splash behind the boat. FFFFUUUUU, there goes the fish.#-o

Only bite for the day while trolling. Somehow, the nuts holding the screws on the D-R's pulley popped out. I assume due to all the vibration coming from the boat/motor? Need to find replacements for those.

Also, I see a couple of recommendations to change the cable to braid line. Is that a good idea? I was experiencing a lot of "hums" coming from the D-R today.

Use Nylock nuts, or thread lock drops.

I'll second the recommendation for the nylock nuts. Another option is to use a flat washer in conjunction with a lock washer. As for your issue with the flatfish you may have been trolling too fast. The smaller flatfish are great lures for a sloooooow troll, larger ones can handle more speed. I try to keep it under 1.5mph when I have the mini's out the back. Also, it may have needed tuning, which is not that difficult to do. The easiest thing to check for is that the eye of the lure is straight up and down. If it still rides off to one side next to the boat, give the eye a very slight adjustment and recheck the action. As a last resort check out this article regarding bending the eye of the lure. I have never had to do this as long as I tie my line directly to the "dumbbell" bar attached to the eye of the lure.

What color did you get? I got orange. I also have a hum but if it is windy I don't hear it.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

I got a black 1 for me. Green 1 for the GF.

I bought some of the braided wires from Cabelas. Hopefully I get some time to test it out soon.
