We just finished fiberglassing our wood boat after some much needed repairs. The boat spends 99% of it's life sitting on the trailer. (I know.. I know)
Anyway,it's now time to paint and I was wondering if a true"bottom paint" is necessary. It never sees salt water and the longest it sits in fresh water is about 3 consecutive days. The cost of an anti- fouling paint is roughly $150.00 per gallon and don't want to shell out that kind of money unnecessarily. Any recommendations?

It has a good coat of gel-coat? That should be all that's necessary in fresh water. Anti-fouling paint is mostly for barnicals and such in salt water, if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't waste the time or money putting true bottom paint on a boat that only sees water occasionally and is never moored. AMX covered why. :thumright

Not going with gel coat, just paint. We just applied the third and final coat of Vinyl Ester resin to it tonight. I need a paint on the bottom that's somewhat durable considering I'm not shy about going in shallow, that's why I was thinking a "true" bottom paint.
