Potential Fuel Line Warning

Post by FishingFool » Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:57 pm

I wasnt even aware of this potential issue until now. And it appears to be a pretty big deal too. Has to do with the use of ethanol fuel and older Mercury fuel line.

Apparently, the inner lining separates and creates big problems. Pics, not mine though.

I guess the older lines were never made to handle today's high levels of ethanol. I haven't read anything about other brands yet. Apparently, the new Mercury lines are gray with blue writing on it and supposely safe from the use of ethanol, at least for a couple of years. They were just recently released too.

Bah, now I have to spend more money, just when I thought I was done.

I use that stuff Mercury puts out called 'Fuel System Treatment & Stabilizer' and get it at Auburn Sports and Marine.

A good fuel stabilizer sure helps, but so does a good fuel enzyme. Both can be obtained from your local Marine dealer and I suggest you use both.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

If you can, fill up with ethanol free gas. There are a few stations around that sell it, here's a link to the list for our State: http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=WA The one I use is the Grange in Issaquah.
