EZ Steer on 4 Stroke Merc

Post by TomD » Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:22 am

Well... I finally re-powered. Replaced my 1991 100 hp Merc with a 90hp 4 Stroke Merc...Should be good!

Question - Do I need to get a special bracket for my EZ Steer for the 4 stroke?

I saved the bracket, pad and straps off my old 100hp, but there doesn't look to be a good place on the motor to strap it on. Just looking for advice from anybody who has a similar motor and uses an EZ Steer. Thanks!

I know this is probably not the information you wished for, have you looked at a front mounted linking system like this: Steering Bracket They attach to the front of your outboards using a standard ball mount, drilling won't be required in most instances as many motors come with the necessary hole(s) already in place. It can be left on or easily removed for tiller operation of the kicker. I have the stainless version as I use my boat out in the salt and it is going on its 5th year now. [thumbup]

Thanks, G-Man! The EZ Steer is basically the same concept except it mounts to the back end of the motors... and since I already own the kicker bracket and the cross piece, it probably makes sense to stick with it...

Got the Answer... Talked to the folks at EZ Steer, which has been bought by Marine Tech Products in MN...

They have a special bracket for a lot of the new 4 strokes, so they sold me one for the 4 stroke Merc... It should get to me next week!

It was cheaper to just get the one new bracket than replace the whole thing...
