Swimming

Post by reelman » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:55 pm

Went out with my fishing buddy today. I sat in the back of the Nu Canoe, my 5 year old sat in the front. I missed horribly and knifed in my paddle when I was expecting resistance from the water. There was a lot of wind and waves and that's probably what caused me to misstroke. Anyway, I went in face first.
We both had on our life jackets, and we also had the floatation seat cushions. My boy managed to stay in the boat, and thought the whole thing was pretty exciting. He was especially happy his fishing snacks didn't get wet.
I was back in the boat in under 10 seconds, and back in my car in under 10 minutes. My head and shoulders were still dry. The Nu Canoe was really easy to get back into. I blame my own sad technique for getting wet in the first place.
We got skunked, but we're alive and warm.

Fly Fishing, like any faith, has varying levels of orthodoxy.

Good call Reelman on wearing the PFD. I know many folks go with just being "Legal" and having it in the boat. But I too have kids, and ever since I purchased one of those really easy to fit/wear self inflating PFD's there is just no reason not to wear it. It gives a sense of normalcy to our kids I think. Like.. this is how we roll, (with PFD)
Ya wanna be there down the road ya know.:)

Exactly. My son knows the boat means we wear lifejackets and we dont take them off until shore.

Glad you are safe, water temps are still very cold here yet. You are fortunate you were able to get right back into the NuCanoe and back to your car in short order. Very happy to hear you had PFDs on!
