anchor/lift and storage.

Post by ResQ » Wed Jan 08, 2014 11:36 am

As I am here driveway boating, I bring up the question on type of anchor, bow lift system or not, length of rope and how do you store your anchor. This question is geared towards smaller 12-18 foot boats as I am well aware of larger boats with cuddies and anchor storage lockers. My Lowe 1672 HD doesnt have a set storage spot so it is just sitting on top of the coiled 80 foot rope. My anchor is just a standard cheapie river style anchor from cabelas and I am looking into getting a fluke style anchor from westmarine (worked well on my trophy). I have a box anchor on my 26 ft cuddy cruiser that folds up and is simply amazing! But far too large and pricey for my smaller boat.

I have a 16ft lund and I used to use a cross mushroom type ancor in the 20lb range but it did not hold as well in the rivers so I tride a fork style ancor that dug in better and worked greak until i snagged something and lost it. But just before I lost it I snagged a 40lb led drift boat ancor and now I use that and it holds great in any current. I have a hatch up front but just leave it out on the rope because its heavy enough not to move around. I have had lighter ancors fly off the front and come tumbling down the boat in heavy chop.
