Northwest Fishing Reports

Looking for a new fish finder for my kayak.... asking for "reasons" to buy a particular brand and model. I am fairly certain I want to stay at a 5" screen, have used lowrance for the last five years, but I am not locked into that brand. So... in short fashion, why would you buy a particular model and brand?

Garmin Panoptix.

$$ but there is nothing else like it. I would (very reluctantly) give up all other sonar if thats what I had to do to keep Panoptix.

Raymarine Dragonfly is quite nice too.

the Garmin Panoptix is way out of the realm for a kayak, but the dragonfly looked pretty cool for the yaker!

Do not ever think you are limited in the size and scope of your sonar, due to your kayak.
The company in the link above makes the most bad-ass sonar mounts you will find, as well as battery optioms that are amazing. I have a 7" color/gps/side scanning, downward scanning fish finder that is mounted on my
Float Tube. $1K sonar on a $400.00 float tube.
(It might not put fish in the Yak, but know that you are not limited in your choices.

Garmin and Raymarine are both awesome but keep in mind he is asking for advice for his kayak. I'm guessing he probably sporting a 7 to 12AH battery that will be running the finder and any other 12V accessories on board. As kayaks do tip over on occasion........... Dragon fly's are pretty reasonable for the smaller ones but I'm not so sure I'd wanting to cough up $500+ to put on anything that tips over in the salt water (or fresh). I was at Rufus earlier this week and watched a fellow with one of those Hobbie pedal guys and he slipped and rolled in about 3 feet of water getting on.

This is a like new unit, very good price, and purchased for a kayak application.
