Drift boat or utility boat

Post by rravare » Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:36 am

Hello,
I apologize if this has been asked before. I am looking at purchasing a boat and am having hard time deciding between a drift boat and a utility boat. I live near the Rogue but am also within an hour from the chetco, elk and sixes. My primary use would be fishing and waterfowling. However i would like something that allows for crabbing (in bays), steelhead and salmon fishing. I do enjoy fishing for rockfish but we have very few days here that i would venture outside the break wall no matter the boat i have. Can anyone one give me a suggestion on which boat type they would recommend and why?
In my price range i have found a few smokercraft alaskan 15ft boats with a 15hp motor and a couple of 15' driftboats with 9hp or 8 hp motors.
