Ok I got the cash to buy a stern light and saw a nice one in Cabela's that is portable, uses LED, and powered by AA batteries but they are on backorder from the website. I also dont really feel like spending the gas to drive clear to Post Falls from Deer Park. Anyone know if any other stores carry these? Im specifically looking for the LED versions as I hear the regular bulbs use D cell batteries which the dont last as long and are also heavier.

Try
www.boatersworld.com That is where I saw the one I am planning on getting. they have it for like $30 or so. They have a whole selection led, non led, stern and bow, etc.
Here you go,

Select you mount of choice and location (bow or Stern) and your good to go.

I ended up having to get it at Cabela's....i was getting ansy to get it and stopped by White Elephant (no portable stern lights period), Sportman's Warehouse (no portables w/LED), Joe's (Atwood brand portable w/LED for $32, uses C cell batteries, and the pole was plastic), so then I went to Cabela's and they had them in stock, both in white housing or camouflage but only one of each...I got the white one....the one at Cabela's was $24.99 +tax. This one has LED, black metal pole, and uses 4x AA batteries.
Now I just need to find a good float light that is battery powered lol...yeah right....

That light its sweet...I'd highly recommend it for anyone needing a portable stern light. There are quite a few options for attaching it. the C clamp can go verticle or horizontal and it also has a side mount bracket. There is also a side mount on the light to screw the pole in either the bottom or the side of the light. the on/off switch is a rubber push button instead of sliding switch. Looks pretty bright too. I'll try to get some pictures tonight if I can remember....go put it out on my fence and walk out into the field

No I just got the stern since that is all that is legally required (In wash). Im going to clamp it to the motor mount since I dont use a trolling motor. Im going to get some of those blinking red bike lights for the sides and some reflective tape too.
all I have left to do is get some longer rope for the anchor and fishing putting my fish finder on
