Boat registratin question

IJUST BOUGHT A 10 FOOT LIVINGSTON. No title. just the boat. It is old. Very old. i plan on using an electric trolling motor. Do I need to reg it? Put numbers on it.

Actually, that may depend. I too used to think you didn't (and still think you shouldn't), but I've recently read that if you're going to operate on any federal waters (including Puget Pound, Lake Washington, Lake Samm., etc) then you are required to have numbers if using either electric or gas motor. If you're just using it on small lakes, etc. Then you most likely do not need to license it. Call the DOL if you need more specifics.

True, the point about federal waters is one that is often overlooked. Federal waters are any waters that the Coast Guard patrols and includes any lakes linked to the ocean by river, canal or locks. However, if you remove the electric motor and just use the oars you're gold on all waters.
