Boat Glass replacement
Boat Glass replacement
Just wanted to give :thumright :thumleft: to the folks at SPEEDY GLASS in Kirkland for replacing my walk-through windshield glass. Brough it in a lunch time and they called around 2:00pm and said it was ready to be picked up. That really made my day!

Hey G-M...what happend, why did you have to replace it?
RE:Boat Glass replacement
Well it’s kind of hard to explain without seeing it but I’ll give it a shot. I popped the glass out of the hinged walkthrough part of my windshield. This occurred as a result of me not having the walkthrough latched down as I was backing it into my garage. Now to say I have a tight fit to garage my boat is an understatement. With the trailer off the truck I need to lower my trailer jack nearly to the bottom of its range to clear the entrance. Well, unlatched the walkthrough sits up just a bit and it caught on the overhang and popped the glass out just as I felt resistance. Now I have a piece of glass and a slightly warped walkthrough, no problem, at least I didn’t think so at the time. I removed the walkthrough from the boat, straightened it, cleaned the gasket and proceeded to re-install the glass. All was going well before my pull string slipped, I should have had the wife help me.
This left me with about 6” of gasket that needed to be fitted into the walkthrough. This is where I made my mistake. Instead of removing the glass and starting over I attempted to pry the gasket into place using a plastic bicycle tire pry.
You can guess the rest. The lesson learned is don’t try to shortcut a process, start from scratch if you have to.
