Motor Repair

I just bought by first boat (12' aluminum for the local lakes). One of the items included was an old 6hp Johnson Sea Horse. The motor currently will not start since the seller had an incident this summer where the boat capsized.

Given the age and condition of the motor I don't want to invest much money in fixing it up. So I thought this is a good experience to improve my small motor repair skills.

I was wondering if anyone had an old service manual for this motor, old parts, etc... they would be willing to dontate/sell cheap to aid me in my project.

The model number is 6R74C.

Thanks much

You might try iboats.com too. I sort of did the same thing when I got my 78 Evinrude 4hp.

Fresh plugs, fresh gas, clean the points and go for gusto! Not much to get water logged on a two stroke.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I wasn't clear. I know how to do an internet search and find all this stuff for sale. (I'm glad no one posted this link http://tinyurl.com/ygxmjka ) :bounce:

I was hoping to make this a low cost project and thought people might have some stuff in their garage they don't need anymore.

Bodofish, thakns for the advice. I'll try that and see if that gets it running again.
