Northwest Fishing Reports

After far too long I finally turned these cut piecs of wood into something that resembles a boat. This is a "Stitch and glue" style of a build. You can see the stitching using zip ties on the bow and transom. These of course are only used to hold the pieces together while the joints/seams are fiberglassed. I am really excited... and kind of blown away that the internal frames actually all fit together really well. No real obvious bung ups yet.
Right now it is just held together under pressure for some photos.

I have to thank Gisteppo for the encouragement to get me motivated. (All-be it has taken me since maybe last Aug.)

Eric, I was thinking just the other day about sending you a PM and asking you to post pictures of the project.

I envy both of you guys. I would love to do something like that, but don't have the room. Small furniture is about all I can do in my basement shop. But this summer, saw dust will fly in the back yard. I'm finally getting to build my 8 x 12 yard shed. Designing it so it will look similar to the style of the house. Didn't want a fake tin barn sitting back there.

plywood. Kind, thickness, where are getting it? Any local boatbuilding support groups? The boats look great! I wish my garage was as clean!

Keep up the good work. Where did you get your plans? I built a 14ft. Pirogue I with plans on got from Uncle John's Boats. Unfortunately it will really only float me so I need to move up to something bigger to take the kids out. Can't wait to see it finished.:flower:

Thats an awesome project you have going there Chris. Perfect for the Potholes. Do you know what the final weight of the boat will be? Trailor? Car topper?

I'm thinking about ordering Uncle John's plans for a jon boat. What is your opinion of their plans?

Chris should inspire many of you tinkerers to start building boats. Anyone can do it, and it is well worth the effort to take family and friends out for a day on the water in something you crafted with your own hands.

FT, the Uncle John's plans are kinda half-a**ed, but not horrible. Start a thread, figure out what it is you need the boat to do, and we can help you decide what boat to build.

I can't remember the weight, but I think it is a little under 100 lbs. It isn't a boat that I plan to keep. I just wanted an easy boat to start on and to get bitten by the building bug. I like to work with wood in the garage. I agree that it would be great for the seep lakes. Mostly of course they are small. I built the transom double thick to the plans, and therefor it can hold a small outboard. The plans say up to like 5-7.5 hp. I would put a little Minn kota on it. Unfortuneatly it is a skosh to wide for my car, so need to look for a cheap small trailer. I've seen a couple on CL for like 300 bucks.

Man! I need a garage. Apartment living stinks for so many reasons, and this is one of the major ones. I'l be posting my own photos soon, I hope.

Looks like his may have been a 'skosh' too big for his doorway! haha
