Do any of you have a good recipe for crab boil? Of course there are a few on the market, and they're all right I suppose, but maybe someone has something they really like.
Thanks

Keep it as simple as possible.
I hope I never have to see the day where I add a ton of stuff to the pot....
Add a TON of ROCK SALT to the water. Not regular salt, rock salt. Then dump the crab in WHOLE into the pot and then boil it for 15-17 minutes. Take out then clean the crab and then your good to eat them with some cocktail sauce (add some horseradish in for some spice/kick) and your good...

Seriously??? I have never heard of that. How many cans of bud to boil say 2 crabs. I love my crab and I love my beer, so this recipe is right down my alley. Then you eat beer flavored crab, let the beer cool and drink crab flavored beer. Right, right LOL

yepp, when i was little my dad would have some friends and family over and they would have a portable kerosine burner stove thing on the table with a pot full of beer. they would have plates of clams, shrimp, mussles, squid, and various vegi's (carrots, onions, bok choy, etc). once the beer got to a boil you would pick out what you want put it into the pot and let it cook for a couple minutes then eat it. it was super good.
Anyways i was out crayfishing with my friend one day and we caught a bucket load. When we got to his house that night i decided to try boiling them in beer like my dad use to do. Let me tell you it turned out so good! i have since tried it with crab and i found it delicious! i've seen my dad poach fish in it too.
I always use just enough beer to cover what i'm cooking. Once you get it to a boil turn the temp down a little bit to keep a low boil. if you dont the beer will start to foam and thats no good. i've never really drank the beer after i boil anything in it. doesn't taste bad, but all the alcohol as burned off from being cooked, so no real point in drinking it. i prefer my beer cold too.
Good luck, hope you like it!

The best crab boil I ever had was using straight sea water out of Puget Sound.

I use about a 50/50 mix of fresh water and the salt water that they're caught in; then cut some garlic up, toss it in the water with them, boil crab whole for about twenty minutes. After they're cooked and somewhat cooled, don't forget that when you bust the body out of the main shell, there's all that yummy "crab butter" left in the shell if you do it upside down. Looks gross, but tastes freakin awesome for dippin the meat into.

i'm getting my recipes straight, so i brought this back up. You really boil the WHOLE crab, guts and all?? i have just done the two cleaned halves for 9-11 min. straight salt water. bring them out and submerge in cold water to STOP the cooking process, then the good part, EAT!! As a kid my mom always steamed them..anybody?? I'll have to try some of these other suggestions also...

I use the sea water. I've boiled Dungeness crab using seasonings and in fresh water with sea salt added. I find cooking it in the water straight from Puget Ssound is by far the best to me. I also cook them live. I have cooked them after cleaning them first and found the flavor wasn't quite as good. Gotta love fresh Dungeness!

Sam mentioned cocktail sauce. I will try that tomorrow Sam with todays catch. I absolutely love fresh crab dipped in melted butter which we had tonight. OMG it was so good!
