Christmas Goodies and Meals

Well? What goes on in the kitchens for the holidays?Are your dinners different then Thanksgiving?or much the same.For me I'm gonna smoke a turkey breast.Im most likely gonna go to Walla Walla State and visit someone very close to me. It'll be sad for me but worth it knowing Im making a difference in someones life.I wanna hear about some great home food traditions from y'all.

Traditional Xmas for me... But one thing different that everyone should try, if you like almond roca.... Costco has these Almond Roca cookies... OMG... The wife made them yesterday and they were to die for! Merry Christmas Everyone!

Christmas week at my house is one filled with Christmas lights, Christmas music, the fireplace going, and my wife baking. My wife is an amazing cook and baker so it's a real treat to enjoy a variety of amazing homemade Christmas cookies. For Christmas dinner this year we decided to bake a ham and cook a prime rib since we love both and usually only enjoy this kind of fare a few times a year. Mashed potatoes, sweet corn, hot from the oven rolls, and mashed sweet potatoes will accompany the two meats, and we will likely have a nice big piece of Costco cheese cake for desert. Because I rarely eat this way, I look forward to it very much and will savor every bite along with the 10 days I will have off from work.

A note for those who are eating a little more carefully these days; I have found that eating a few meals like the one I described above, won't affect your weight loss or your diet as long as you return to healthy eating and exercise once it's over. You may be up a few pounds following Christmas week but that will likely be due to the combination of water retention from all the sodium, and the sheer weight of the food you eat until it is processed. So if you are losing weight, don't sweat the holidays, enjoy them then get right back to healthy eating once it's over.

Youre right Dave. I did same for Thanksgiving and I was up .08 of a pound.I was happy.I m still going with it and down 75 lbs.The best thing is its staying off too.I had a pretty severe accident yesterday so most holiday cooking isnt gonna happen for me.I cut my finger damn near off.Now my finger is a half finger.I wonder if I'll weigh less now?This is gonna be rough seeing I'm right handed.

Ouch Rac!!!!!!! That hurts again!!!!!!!! Ok all of us no sugar guys don't really have to suffer with no goodies during the holidays. If you make the goodies like I do, then just use splenda instead of sugar. If it calls for brown just give it drizzle of molassas on top of the splenda. Cookies, cakes and pies have turned out awsome!!!!!! Rac, step away from the knife, if you need some apples sliced or anything else, give one of us a shout so we can help.

Thanks Chris. That's one of the first things that came to mind. He could use an alternate finger but hopefully this won't be necessary.

No worries, we have two index fingers. If you're going to carry you should equally at home using either side.

Trigger finger is ok. It was the ring finger.A shotgun works wonders when you have aiming problems.Close is as good.No fishing for a month or two unfortunately.So no infection will set in.I'll be out in a few weeks.Back in the 90's I had kidney surgery. I went to Blue Creek with my fishing bud. He took his wheelbarrow with some pillows and he wheeled me down to Blue Creek.

Back to xmas cooking. Ive been putting out pumpkin,cranberry and banana breads for a couple weeks.All are pretty much sugar free and very low fat.I cant find low fat or sugar Panetones.So i'll buy 1 and have to work it off. I make double dip french toast with Panetones. That is kiilin.

Seriously, hope it heals nicely. We are not going to be doing much at all this year. My wife is having surgery 3 days before christmas on her neck. Remove cartilage , install bone matter and fuse disks togeather. The kids will be hanging with out with our families and I'll be tending her needs. She has already made a request for some of the SOFT dinner favorites I'll have on hand for her. Sweet Taters, Egg Nog... stuff like that.

Panettone's bring back memories. My Grandpa used to cook them for Christmas morning when he was still with us. He was a chef in the British Navy and cruised around the globe checking on the colonies.

My Christmas dinner will be built around a small end, bone in, well aged, prime rib roast. The sides will be twice baked mashed potatoes with minced garlic, cream cheese, and scallions. Fresh green beans with bacon and onion. Creamed Cippolini onions. Not a real desert fan but will probably pick up a Costco cheese cake.
I'd like to get one of the Costco spiral sliced hams and use a torch to to burn on a brown sugar glaze but both of my kids hate ham (must have inherited that from my ex-wife) and they always tell me that if I'm going to have ham they'll stop and get pizza before coming over.

sounds like the kids dont know how good they got it. just wait till they are about 27 years old have a family a mortgage and all that other stuff and being laid off for the last 6 months they wont be able to afford a ham:-" sorry for the:-({|= vent

That sounds very tasty, Prime Rib is one of my favorite cuts.

I read these threads and picture a pot luck with all the different foods mentioned on it. Half the names I dont recognize, Panetones, but it would be a sight to behold having the variations from all of our different backgrounds. :bigsmurf:

Panatones(sp) are a sweet cake like bread.If youre watching calories dont even buy one.They cost anywhere from 8.00-25.00 depending if you want filling.Its a Italian made bread and is traditional Christmas morning treat.Lots just slice them and eat. I like it for French Toast.Its really best to buy right after Christmas because they drop in price.I get mine from Borrachinnis on Rainier ave or Pacific Food Importers .Bon Appetite to all of our WL.Com family.A very merry Christmas to all.

Tamales at the in laws. It is the only time I will eat them all year. I get sick of them, even though they are good on Christmas eve. I will be doing a lot of smoking though. I got to get duck and geese strips ready for the bowl games.
