Mud bugs...
More info:
Crayfish, crawfish, or crawdads — members of the superfamilies Astacoidea and Parastacoidea — are freshwater crustaceans resembling small lobsters, to which they are related. They breathe through feather-like gills and are found in bodies of water that do not freeze to the bottom; they are also mostly found in brooks and streams where there is fresh water running, and which have shelter against predators. Most crayfish cannot tolerate polluted water, although some species such as the invasive Procambarus clarkii are more hardy. Crayfish feed on living and dead animals and plants.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.

Mostly just depends on the part of the country you or your parents came from/live in. They DO swim so can be called 'fishies' and that's just fine. I call them both crawdads and crayfish, whichever name pops into my feable mind at any given time..

Crawfish is the real name. If you go to other parts of the country they start calling them different names. When I moved here from Louisianna I heard some one say crawdads and crayfish. I was like what the heck is that. The guy told me and I said it`s crawfish. Everytime I hear some one say it I have to correct them on the right way to say it. But it`s all the same.

Oh my god Big D this looks just like home. Every week end during crawfish season this is what it looked like at my parents. Suck the heads eat the tails.:bounce:
