Crab Pots?

Post by fishnislife » Sun Jun 28, 2009 9:41 am

Hey guys. Quick question. How much would used crab pots go for?
I'm trying to get a gauge on what to pay for two pots and I don't see any on CL. They are the heavy duty coated ones, weighted with lead line and buoys. Look great and very functional. No rust. I think there like 3' x 3' including bait cages.

I just bought 2 new square rubber coated Danielson pots from Bayside Marine in Everett for 19.95 each which is a smokin deal. Right down the road at Performance Marine they were 39.99. Bayside's weighted rope and buoy (100') was pricy at 26.00 but I found the same 100' of weighted rope with buoy at Camano Marine for 19.99 which was a good price. Unless money is really tight, I'd recommend buying them new so you will have them for many years to come. You might also fine them at a garage sale but that may be more time spent looking then it's worth. I bought bait cages for 7.00 each new as well.

So to buy one new at the lowest price I could find, out the door, was about 50.00. I'd offer the seller 20 each but that's just me. Or ask how much they want for them and go from there. Good luck. We are just days away from crab heaven. Woo Hoo!!!!

I don't think I'm much help on this J. I have one of the heavy ones which is made out of twisted re-bar. I prefer this pot because it helps with keeping it weighted in current. I have seen ones like this for over $100.00, but they come in a couple of sizes, and I think that was jumbo. I've seen them for like$69.00 then I've seen the folding metal cage ones for cheap maybe 30 bucks.
Honestly I haven't bought any in a few years. Of course search online some of the retailers that you know, see what comes up for price.

I'm getting my stuff tuned up as we speak.:compress:

Cobrar,

I sent you a PM. I believe Camano Marine has these pots for 19.99 as well but I'm not 100% positive. I think their sign said 19.99. I just didn't mention it because only a few of us are in this area. Good luck.

I did the same as Dave.I just bought two new Danielsons for this comming year. I lost a pot last year. For $20.00 you cant go wrong. If its lost or stolen ? no great loss.I get limits in the cheap pots almost every time I go.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Fishnislife:

I'd pay at most $60 for those ones, each, if they are in good/great condition.

Best option is to go buy those square collapsible Danielsen traps that are usually under $30. Joes (when they were in business) used to sell them for under $20 occasionally.

http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/shelfish/crabre ... ielson.jpg Here is what they look like,

Buy yourself a bait box, 100' of leaded line and a float and for under $60 you should be able to get a brand new crab catching setup. I also like zip tying a piece of rebard or a small brick to the bottom for weight. I have three of these

Plus, those square ones crab the best in my opinion. Honestly, back when I had a few different traps, including those heavy duty expensive ones, the square ones would always produce the best. Not sure why, but they are all I crab with now. My uncle who crabs a lot has tinkered around with different pots too and he's found the same results.

Good luck man, haven't heard from ya in a while.
