Dave, I might not be getting out much on my own this year unfortunately. I am working with DFW on their test fishing program, so I will be in area 9 five days a week in their boat leaving me little time to get my own tub out. If you see the DFW test fishing stop by and say hello.

That's OK! I have caught nice dungies on occassion in the past so keeping fingers crossed.
Last year sucked for me though. Got skunked a few times and gave up. Empty card.

It was a zoo every time I went out last year and got ckunked on Dungies to boot so this year hoping for a li'l change of wind.

Good luck to everyone gettin' out for the opener!
hey knot you gonna be at dash on the opener?

Spokey- ya I'll probably go out early. Gotta work later.

Hey Matt,

That sounds like a cool gig. Good for you! I will watch for you out there and I hope you have a blast with that opportunity.

ONE MORE DAY!!!!! Not that I'm counting.

Sounds like I won't be getting out until around 3pm tomorrow, but I will be out in my boat.

I'll be out there 1st thing in morning too. Went out there today for a bit to chuck some darts (mainly to get out of the house) and saw a bunch of nice crab walking in the shallows. tomarrow should be great crabbing
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

eewwwwwwww Matt has crabs. Muahaha... When crabbing from a pier are we allowed pots and rings or just rings? can we use 2 pots like in a boat? One other question. If i dont leave the spot where im crabbing do I need a Bouy attached with name and addy on it?

Man that looks good Matt! I'll be thrilled with a few keeper dungies throwing the rings off the pier.

Good luck to all getting out this weekend.

You can use both rings and pots when fishing from a pier (2 per person) mix or match. If you are tied off to the pier, you do not need a bouy with name and address if you are present.

Thanks Bentrod. Thats what I needed to know.I got my boat all loaded ready to go and realized I dont have valid triler tabs and my boat lic is expired. Its not payday so I'll wait a week.In the meantime I'll hit Dash instead.

Just got back from Dash. Quick trip. Crowds in force even before the gate opened at 6AM and with the 7 AM opener LOL#-o . Not unexpected though.
Managed a few red rock and one dungie keeper. Not bad for a short 2 hours I guess. There were a few being caught with a couple big ones right under the pier. As tide went out had to go deeper to find legal ones and still spotty for dungies even further out from the pier.

Hope others have more time out there and more success with the dungies:) But I at least avoided the dungie skunk!

Fantastic first report. Short and sweet and to the point. Thank you. Now when you say deeper? do you mean there is away to actually go deeper on a fishing pier? or do you take a lil boat and row out? I think I'll drive by there after work .

Racfish- unfortunately for me deeper means out of range LOL. There were a couple guys with surf rods lugging those little wing traps out using rod and reel off the pier. Collectively they were getting more keeper dungies than people in closer as time wennt on but not a lot (I was only there 2 hours too so things could change).

The tide was headed out while I was there. I think if U can hit it up around high tide tonight things might work out for a decent chance even with a ring trap or right under the pier but I gotta work.#-o

There were actually a couple very nice dungies caught right under the pier so there are a few but seemed the further out guys (casting) were doing better (better= more dungies with fewer red rock even if not keepers) as time went on.

Musta been around 50 people out there crabbing.

Just got back from crabbing in front of Everett this morning. We were only out for maybe 2 hours with my nephew and brother-in law. It was my nephews first time but also the first time on the "ocean" and didn't like the waves much. They were only about a foot mostly from boat traffic. We ended up with 5 big dungeness before heading back. Lots of others out there today too. Coast guard was doing on the water checks for a lot of the boats out there.

We got our nets out at about 7:45 a.m, and at about 10:30 a.m we had 3 limits of red rock, and 3 limits of big dungies !

Launched out of Everett about 4:00pm yesterday and had the pots in the water about 4:30 or so. Crabbed for about 2 hours. First pull only had 6 keepers, then the next pull we had 8 in one pot, lol. The the string after that we had about 9 or 10 keepers we had to let go. Got out 15 in under 2 hours and called it a day.

Heading back out there this afternoon.
