Winter glove recommendations??

On the slim hope that anybody responds anymore to the forum here, I am reaching out to ask you guys...
Does anyone have a winter glove that you really like and recommend for when actually fishing?
I am fishing mostly via a Kayak, but float tube, boat,.. all the above.
I was looking at a pair of Simms gloves that were cut off at the first digit, and then had that mitten flap thing as an option to bring over your bare fingers, (until fingers needed)
The Simms are semi insulated, but Simms of course is $60.00 for gloves.

I’ve got about 6 pairs of other various gloves. I’m just looking for something that someone thinks is an awesome glove, and still leaves you able to work with your line, reel, gear, etc.

Thanks!

Wool is tough to beat for warmth, and if it gets wet - it still works.

I've been wearing what I call 'woolies' (100% wool gloves made without fingertips covered) when pursuing outdoor endeavors in the cold for nearly 40 years, and replace them every 5 years or so.

I couldn't tell you the brand of any of them. When it is time for a new pair, I usually find 2 to 3 options where I'm planning to buy them, (which has varied) and always go with the thickest pair.

They've always been under $20

Got a pair of these several years ago and amazingly enough they work fairly well. Took them to AK last year too and use them on Roosevelt when cold and windy. Not the best for handling wet fish but a quick wipe with a towel and back to work.

Mine have a velcro strap at the wrist unlike the zipper of the current version and the "fingers" are longer than those pictured.

Same here with fingerless wool. I tried a number of different types and thicknesses of gloves. Insulated, gortex and not. Then one day I 'rediscovered' a pair of my old wool ones in the bottom of my tackle bin and doubt I will experiment again. They smell like fish and I'll stick my nose in them during the 'off' season and take a big whiff. Sick, I know, but it makes me smile. I will rinse them and squeeze them out but have not actually washed them in a number of years. They will still be fairly warm even when wet. One problem I had with a lot of the 'other' gloves is if I took them off it was difficult to get them back on because of the lining.
I also use wool socks from REI and have wool shirts. A lot of people don't like wool against their skin, so that could be an issue you may encounter.

Thanks guys! I’ll take a look @ the Cabelas ones that were linked above.
As far as wool in general.. I’m all about wool everything. I love wool.
I was mostly curious if anyone likes the fingerless gloves, that also have the mitten flap.
And I agree with what someone said about some really great gloves are sometimes hard to get on/off.

I have wool with the flap and fingerless. I had an issue with the flap getting in the way a couple times so stopped using them. They may work for you though.

Regardless of which gloves you choose, they can all be helped out by using the Hot Hands warmers or any of the other brands. The websites suggest putting them in the palm of your hand. However, I don't like the bulky feeling in the palm of my hand when I'm hanging on to the rod. I put them on the back of my hand at my knuckles. That helps to keep my fingers warm. My regular fishing partner Packernut uses the Head brand running gloves sold at Costco. He swears by them. They're thin and have full fingers but he says he can feel everything just fine, and says they're really warm. I believe they're about $14

I have a pair of gloves similar to the Simms previously described. They work great just don't wipe your cold nose with the back of the glove or the velcro will get you.

I got mine at Outdoor Emporium in Seattle for about 15 dollars. OE has quite a collection of purpose based gloves.

My hands get cold quite easily so I have a collection of gloves that I use this time of year. What I use is dependent on the type of fishing I will be doing. Finger/thumbless on your casting had is a must with a bait caster. Normally I'll use rag wool fingerless gloves or a set of fleece lined neoprene fingerless gloves. What I've also found is that using Nitrile Gloves under the wool gloves helps keep my hands dry and a bit warmer if it is raining. I have yet to find a neoprene glove that is actually waterproof when being used. Most have a seam or two that fail shortly after use. The glomitt design gloves that I have tend to stay at home when I fish as the flap seems to get in the way when baiting hooks and when the action starts.

When I'm boat fishing, I always bring along this hand muff: https://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS ... lsrc=aw.ds Pop in a heater or a couple of the chemical hand warmer packets and you are good to go.

I get and use wool shooters gloves the palm area has leather for better gripping. The also have the the feature of pinning back the upper finger cap. Nothing keeps you warm like wool.
