Sidewinder planer boards

Howdy fellers!

I am in search of someone who has used the Sidewinder planer boards from Seth Burrill. I have had success fishing it from the bank on the Spokane river, but by all that's holy I cannot get it to cooperate from a boat while trolling. It releases as soon as it hits the water.

My thought is the line is too small in diameter, for it to hold in the keeper until a fish releases it. I am using 8 lb. mono on this particular setup, same size as I used from the bank. Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
