North Sound Beach Fishing

Post by Speedbird 48 » Sat Aug 22, 2020 12:22 am

Is there any beach fishing to speak of in the North Sound? I have heard that Boeing Creek has a Salmon population. Could one target salmon as they entered the mouth of the creek, or at the creek itself? Hows Deer Creek?

If you are targeting Salmon from the beach and live on the east side of the Sound I would recommend Golden Gardens, Carkeek, Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, Kayu Kayu Ac Park and Picnic Point as potential spots... I say this not based on my extensive shore fishing experience from any of these spots but instead from watching people casting from shore at these spots (while I'm in my boat) and occasionally hooking something. Would also throw Edmonds Pier in there as a possible spot but more likely to be crowded...additional advantage to the pier is that it has special fishing regulations e.g. it's open for all salmon species year round, you can legally take home a chinook from there right now whereas all of the rest of area 9 is closed for chinook. All of these spots have good parking and easy beach access. Kayu Kayu Ac is the one closest to some "famous" salmon fishing, look for reports about fishing from boats at the "oil docks" and they are referring to the facility about 1/3 mile north of that park.

I've fished off Boeing Creek a fair amount, both from shore and from my boat (see user name)... I was literally fishing there yesterday albeit from my boat. While I've had a lot of success with sand dabs, rock sole, sculpin and the occasional rockfish when fishing from shore I've only picked up salmon there in the water too far off the beach to realistically cast. If you have a boat or even a paddleboard or something there is excellent bottom fishing about 100 yards off shore from where the creek goes through the tunnel, there is artificial reef structure (google "boeing creek reef") and there are plenty of rockfish (which you cannot keep) as well as other fish around that area.

I do see guys fly fishing off the beach at Boeing Creek during extremely low tides so they must be catching something, and I know people have caught pinks from there during pink years. Last consideration is that access to the beach at Boeing Creek is either a long walk over from Richmond Beach at low tide or via a private/gated footpath from the Innis Arden neighborhood.
