RE:jig molds
The jig in your picture looks like it was made with a 90 degree 1/0 hook. My 1/4oz jig molds recommend 1/0 or 2/0 hooks.
Your homemade jig mold could accomodate multiple hook sizes if you removed 1/16 of an inch from the areas marked in red. (see pic)

You don't have to cut off the back section, just use a dremel to remove a little of the surface of both pieces.

I've made these molds before. The toughest part is trying to get keep the hot lead from forming over the hook eye. I had trouble getting the plaster in that area to hold the hook eye properly.koryrasmussen55 wrote:i used this site. its a step by step instructions on how to do it.

BTW I've made dozens of Buzz Bomb, Wilson darts, and Phish type lures using these plaster molds. Better than buying them at 4+ bucks a piece.

RE:jig molds
balsa wood is a great jig material to make the pattern. The only downside with these molds is they start falling apart after a dozen or so castings, at least in my experience.

RE:jig molds
Thanks for the link! I'm surprised plaster and water putty can handle 600 degree lead.
I lose so many smaller jigs like 1/16 oz it would take too long to cast them one at a time in a homemade mold. Do-it makes "pro-series" molds that save a lot of time.
I use a PRO-101 RHNC 1/16 and it works great!
NOTE: If you want to buy a do-it mold, don't get it directly from do-it. Their prices are way too high. It's better to have a dealer order it for you because they get substantial discounts. Paul at Stamina does special orders and can save you at least $15. For example, I'm thinking about buying a Weedless Football Jig FBB-3H-AF, and Paul said he can order it for $29.95 -- which will save me $15.55!
