Just picked up an older Fenwick rod with metal ferrules.How do you clean and/or maintain the metal ferrules.Last time I used steel wool to the clean the male end. Now I have a very nice 1-piece rod.The rod went together but wouldn't come apart?

Steel wool is fine but you need to lube the ends occasionally, never put them together dry. If you ever find yourself without lube, rub the male end of the ferrule on the side of your nose. Now to get the two pieces apart you'll want to put some penetrating oil on the joint let sit and then give it a go. Grab each end firmly, do not use the guides!, and twist. You can do this while putting your knees between your forearms and using your legs to help separate the ends while you twist. Good luck!

Im not alone in this world.I have plenty of older Fenwicks and EagleClaws with metal Ferruls. I rinse them everytime I visit the salt and dab them dry.Keeping them clean is a big help also. I love the older Fenwicks.

G-Man is right-on This is exactly what I do with all my older Fenwicks..... The nose trick works great...just remember to twist it on the outer side of the nose, not the inner side!!! A little commonsense here! When you put the older rods together just push them straight together no twist is necessary like graphite rods. When taking them apart use a little twist and they will come apart just fine. When using steel wool make sure it is 0000 type and use a little oil when you clean off the rust or dirt. Don't push the pieces together to hard, it isn't necessary. You might replace them if they are real bad. It is an easy fix. You can have it done at most rod building shops for around $25.00. Good luck and be careful with those older Fenwicks.. I have 10 of them and they are my go-to rods for sure! Good Luck, Steve
