Very nice! Looks like they were "grubbin" for food in the shallows, pun intended!

Makes sense, as a trout's food supply is in the shallow and weedy areas. I've seen many an ice fisherman get skunked in 15-20' of water while my buddies and I have nailed em in 5-6' of water. Same thing applies here in AK. During a major feed the majority of char are caught in 3-7' of water, right over the weed beds.

I only caught 6-10 inchers today in 13 ft of water. do you think they are looking for food sources or prespawn drawn to springs near the shoreline? What about the substrate............. gravel? weeds? if there is only 2-3 ft you should have a good idea of the bottom structure?

in this pond I've found that I have more hits over clean ground near or along weed edges. I look for the area's were the trout can see my offering from a longer distant since I'm not using bait. In this pond I'll see groups of 3-7 come in and nudge the jigs and leave. it seems the solitary trout will take my offering more often.
