Well, Dilbert and myself went to the show and met a few great people. Mark with Muskies Inc, thanks for the info and having the leaders DIlbert has been looking for. Larry and the boys from WBC, the info you had was excelent and I will be joining you all soon. The Quantam booth was great, prices were excellent, and the jokes were...well...not great, but I did pick up a new InCyte 20 for the wife. The Muskies Inc raffle was a great deal and the $10 off at Sportsman warehouse was used immediately after the show. All in all, I felt that the gren fish was not too well represented. Maybe a handfull of booths available. TONS of silver fish stuff, silver fish charter companies, resorts for silver fish, tackle for silver fish, demos for silver fish, boats for silver fish. Did I mention a distinct smell of deer urine in the hunting rooms? It was either that or a few guys just got out of the woods. A little too much camo in that area for me. I think that I was the only non-camo wearing guy there! We'll see about next year.

That's how it always is unless you want to buy a new bass boat...you can definitely find them there.

Meh... it was Ok I guess. But without more green and bronze fish stuff I doubt I'll be back next year. The highlights of the day were the fluorocarbon leaders from Muskies Inc and the super sale crank baits at Sportsman's Warehouse (not at the show).

Well... you know the normal progression is fishing for bluegill and bass...and then progressing to trout.

Nice to hear you found the Quantum booth and got a good priced reel. I got a 20 there also.

I went to the Sportsman show today to work at the Western bass booth. It looked like an ok show, only had an hour and a half to walk around. Bummed there was less pro's than last year, no Iaconnlli and Byron Velvick lol.
I walked right by the Muskie booth, didn't even notice a fish on display, if there was one.
We are raffling off a $350 gift card to Auburn sports and marine, if you need tickets I'll be glad to sell you some : p

I did see the Hawg Quest host, he walked by our booth, but didn't stop. Gave me a nod each time, pretty cool. We wanted to talk to him about maybe taggin along to one of our tournaments, but never caught up with him.

I found the Muskie both but I don't recall the Bass both. I was there Thursday from 12-6:30pm and I didn't see everything. I wasn't into boats or hunting, either.

My wife and I made it down on Saturday - I was pretty proud of myself - all I bought was a Promise Keeper spinner from the Macks booth, been looking for them for awhile and nobody carries them. Bought a raffle ticket from the WBC only because we are suckers for kids - the red-headed girl there was quite the little saleswoman.

Found the Muskie booth on our way out the door - by that point we were tired, glassy eyed and starving. I did make a point to introduce myself to Rosanne while my wife raided the free cheese dip samples nearby.

Had a ball watching the 3' anglers at the trout pond, drooled over the boats, saw my cousin's picture up on the display board at the Pacific Salmon Charters booth, and checked out a few of the campers.

All in all it was a good day.

I had been looking all over for them myself and had given up...forgot all about it, until you brought it up again. Maybe I can go to the Mack's website and find it there.

They had a show accross the river in Portland this week end too...I think...I can not see me enjoying it by myself, which is how I would have to go. The wife 'O my life does not like the outdoors any farther than her own garden.

EDIT: I stand corrected the show accross the river was not this week end it is:

Iskiles, You can get them online from Mack's - but they were charging a minimum $5.00 for S&H. I wanted to try one before buying more - seemed awfully high for a $2.00 lure.

The sportmans show is always a must to attend. We were down there for pretty much the entire day on sunday. I was on a really tight budget and after attending the beer garden and getting a couple of $5.50 beers. It didnt leave me with a whole lot of spending money. Luckily we were there until 20 minutes before it closed and the guy running the liquidation booth cut all his prices to 50% off, and was making deals as well. I got hundreds of beads, tons of corkies, tons of blades, clevises, split rings, jigs, hooks, bobber stops, lure blanks just tons of little things. It was a grocery bag about 1/2 full for $8, cant beat that. Then at another booth I got 4 packs of Macks brand yarn for $1. I am use to paying $1.69 a pack for 14 feet of yarn, 14 feet of yarn for a quarter is tough to beat. I could have easily spent more than a grand on just fishing tackle. But in 5 hours I spent about $30 ($10 to get in, $11 on beer, $8 on tackle, $1 on yarn, $1 on the tiger pac rafle) learned some new things, got some new gear, caught a little buzz, saw some new products, got a whole bag of resorts, guides and gear pamplets, and got to hang out with some friends. Another good sportmans show.

I went alone. I didn't want to but that was the way I had to go. You can move through quick or linger at will and they have seminars to attend besides looking at stuff. You won't really know unless you go. Come back and tell us about it.

Do you go fishing by yourself?

Yes, I seldom get a partner. My 17 yo son went with me once this past summer and said he had a great time, we caught a bunch of pan fish. Every time I want to go he has some reason not to. I love to fish, but I am not one of those guys who goes out for the solitude. I would much rather share the experience. I and tnj8222 have been tossing around a meeting. I answered a personal ad in craigslist that this old guy (I can relate to being an old guy) wanted to meet some one to talk about catching squawfish and maybe go fishing together in the spring...no answer from him. I know it is a pain in the neck to go out with a guy that does not know much about fishing, but I continue to search out a partner...I need to quit writing, this is starting to border on pathetic! LOL

I tried to get my son to go to the show with me, too. He is 16. I told him he could skip school. It is educational! But he said he had a math test and something else to do. So I went by myself, as I do fishing. I enjoyed myself. The seminars were great. I just went to the ones on salmon and steelhead stuff. I was going to a Spring Chinook seminar but it was for the Columbia river so I didn't stay. My point is, it was worth going just like going fishing alone. You won't know if you will enjoy it unless you go.
I talked with people there at the booths. I learned new things. Got to see and feel the Emmrod fishing gear. www.emmrod.com Then I heard this guy talking to a guide about how he went to Alaska and nailed the kings with an emmrod pole. I was surprised with the sensitivity of it.
Before the weekend you can get a discount off the website and beat the crowds. Then come back and tell us what you thought good or bad.

Thanks for the encouragement, Toni. I think I will go to the show. I can always stand to learn a few things..this is one old dog that learns new tricks!!

I am putting it on my calendar right now!

Hey G.P., I guess I can get those Promise Keepers at the show in Portland...I am sure Mack Lures will show up there.

Lewis-

Don't take it personal that your son doesn't want to go fishing. Little fishing buddies grow up, some loving to fish and others take on other interests. My little buddy found his love in basketball at about 14. We spent several great years fishing together when he was younger. He is now married, teaching high school and coaching basketball. Although he doesn't fish anymore, he often talks about the fun times we had out on the water. I really love going to his high school basketball games that he is coaching. The memories were netted. That is the important thing.o:)

Thanks, Marc.

I need that reality check once in a while. I have four great kids that are very demonstrative in their love for their mom and I and now I have a grandson who will, hopefully, go fishing with grandpa in five or six years.

Maybe this is not the right forum for this, but I was talking to my older brother, Larry, last night on the phone from Montana and he and my brother just younger than him, Bob, lived with my dad and I and my sister, Cookie, and my brother just older than me, Dan, lived with mom since they split up when I was nine. I told Larry I was a little sad because I do not remember ever going fishing with dad. He said he and Bob used to go fishing with dad and his buddies. They would go out all day most times and dad and his buddies would just drink all day. No food or pop or anything for my brothers and the back of a hand if they complained. So, I guess, I am fortunate that I do not have those memories. I am, and always have been, determined my kiddos will not have those kind of memories.

Sorry...sounds like a therapy session...

On a cheerier note here is the next generation! Me and my first grandchild, Erik Hansinius Petersen.

He is a fine looking boy, Lewis. It appears from the photo that he has some good sized hands! That's important to hold a rod:thumleft:

Cabela's has a great kids rod. Not the Mickey Mouse kind. It is the same quality of an upper end Zebco, just downsized for little ones. I picked one up for my grandson this last fall. We are going to give it a try this spring. It was only about $30.00.

Kids grow up fast. It won't be long until he will be tagging along beside you to go fishing.

Congrats Lewis!

And your not alone in the absent dad category - mine took me to catch my very 1st fish ( stocked pond, think I was about 4), but that was it, they split when I was about 6 and I too lived with mom. He was around off and on, but not for fishing - scared of the water - won't go near anything bigger than a bathtub!:-$
