Pend Oreille Ione Millpond Fishing

Post by Natebg1 » Sat Feb 05, 2011 11:29 pm

Hey everyone,

Good to be back with you all, I wanted to check real fast to see if anyone has ever fished up on the Pend Oreille close to Ione in the Millpond area which is by the Airport. I am just curious to hear anyone's updates on this area if they have fished it lately or at all. Look forward to hearing from everyone, take it easy.

Nate

Good question. The furthest North I've ever fished is Tiger. Ive always kind of wondered about the Ione Millpond area... In my experience the further North or South you get from Usk/Cusick the bigger the fish seem to get but your catch rate gets lower... Less population=bigger fish I assume.

The Mill Pond area at Ione is blocked by a small dam which is owned by Seattle City Light. As part of the Sullivan Creek and Reservoir upgrade Project the Mill Pond and dam were agreed to be included. The agreement last summer will lead to the removal of the dam, opening 16 miles of the feeder stream to fish forage. The dam and old mill pond are no longer functional and the area will provide much needed spawning, feeding and forage for Native Trout in the north end of the Box Canyon Res. One reason for smaller numbers of Trout and Pike in the north end is the lack of ideal habitat. I'm sure there is some good fishing in the north end of the Box Canyon and it looks like it will only get better. To get the full story Google the Box Canyon Dam removal project.

I've never fished that far north either but I have heard the fish are smaller up that way. I was on the water Friday down in the Indian Island area with Craig, it was colder then a witch's *** lol
We put in as Sandy Shores (which I had never been to, so Tnx Craig for showing me where that was) and we fished down stream to the north about 3 to 4 miles. We never had a bump or saw any chasers. I was hoping to go out Saturday too, but couldn't find anyone to go with me so I stayed home. I hope to hit it a few times this week if the weather is decent. I was out last week and got 3 fish so there's some hope here that it will pickup soon.

The River on Sat was teribble, there was ice everywhere. It was so bad you couldnt navigate the river hardly. I have never seen so much ice as i did yesterday. We did fish it though but didnt even get a follow or eve see a fish. The water up there needs to warm up a bit before the fish start to hit again. Water temp on sat was only 32.5 degrees

Ice in the guides? You guys are die hard! Water temp freezing, your lucky you didn't get iced out of the launch. I've dodged ice in Alaska and its no fun, not to mention dangerous. My hats off to you for going for it. Makes our tournament in October sound like a walk in park.
