Reading the threads about Cabela's and then a few inserts about BassProShops (including mine) got me to wondering. What about the small bait and tackles that are still around? So many tackle stores around the NW are big, some are chains, now Cabela's; does anyone still use the small outfits anymore?
When I was in Florida a few weeks ago, the best information I got was from a small shop in Davie called EvergladesProBass. They gave me all the inside scoop from locations to lures, and with all the details that only the locals know.
Are there any shops up here that are that helpful? Bill's Sporting Goods in Mt.Vernon was like that, but they are no longer around. The only shop I know of that is worth its salt is Backlash Tackle in Grants Pass. I spend alot of time talking to the owner when I am down that way and he sets me up with all the latest info and tips, plus he has fishing gear I can't get anywhere else without going on-line.
Does anyone up here know of any good bait and tackles that are not called Joe's, Sportsman's Warhouse, Fishermen's Marine, or Cabela's?

RE:Local Tackle Shops
There is this new Sporting goods place over by Ikea and Best Buy that I saw not too long ago. I cant remember its name, but maybe you can give that place a go. Its brand Spankin new I think, so it might carry a couple sweet items and maybe a couple good deals. The Ikea Im talking about is across the bridge right by the airport. You cant miss it, Ikea is huge.
p.s - I've never been inside the Sporting Goods store, but what sporting goods store doesnt carry fishing supplies.

If in doubt set the hook!
RE:Local Tackle Shops
I have been to Rainbows End on 117th, just north of the corner of SR500 and Fourth Plain.
They were very friendly and helpful too.

Also I went up toward St Helens one day last year and right off the freeway going toward Cougar there was a tackle shop. I stopped for a look-see and the boy behind the counter was real helpful and told me where to go to find the fish and what was "hot" for catching. I do not remember the name of the shop...sorry.
Thanks for the reminder, cavdad45. We, no, I should remember to support the small local shops. It is worth it to me to pay a few pennies more, or even a few dollars more to support someone who has stepped out and decided to make a living doing something he loves, like fishing! While I know they are not fishing, you know what I mean.
There is an ad on Craigslist today about a going out of business sale and they mention compound bows and fishing poles, but I do not recall seeing a shop there on the corner of 76TH Street and Hazel Dell in Vancouver. I am going to check it out after work tonight.
