Groundhog Predicts 6 more weeks of Winter

Post by fishnislife » Sat Feb 02, 2008 2:31 pm

Well, if you believe the tradition of Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pa, then we are in for a long winter. No early spring this year. Six more weeks is what Phil (the infamous groundhog) predicts by seeing his shadow today after being yanked from his cozy stump cottage and awoke from his slumber for our enjoyment. Geez Marc, I thought I was depressed about fishing right now... but after looking at your picture, I've got it pretty good. I am just lazy to put on extra layers under my waders and hit the salt water beaches. I really didn't think this was a bad winter. I mean last year on the West side here we had multiple snow storms where people left their cars on the roads and had to walk home. I don't know.... maybe your picture is just a typical winter day in Spokane?

We are already above our norm. Now they are saying we could get hit again like last week. The last big hit was 13.5". If the city can keep up on the streets, I don't mind it that much, because after all, it is winter. Besides, the lakes around here are going to be in good shape and the rivers will be up. Hopefully the fires will stay down this year.

I am worried about you guys on the west side though. All that snow in the Cascades will be coming down in the spring and you could see some serious flooding again. Let's hope not.[-o<

Yeah a it doesn't take much to blow out the rivers when there's a good snowpack. Three or four days of warm weather + steady rain would do it.
