RE:1100lb. Hog Killed By 11 yr old! - TRUTH REVEALED
In reply to Fishnislife:
You make excellent points! However for me to believe anything I really need to see some conclusive evidence, or have someone document it that has nothing to gain. Luckily this isn't a closed case; I think the pictures of the hog back from the taxidermist could prove it true for me... granted the pictures are clear and the hog's skin doesn't look like the lacing on a football :cyclops:
I feel there is a difference between Mac Weakley's huge bass catch and releases and this story that makes Mac a lot more believable. For one, Mac's monster bass seem a lot more believable to me at 21-25 pounds. If he started catching and having cruddy documentation on 30 pounders that'd raise some red flags for me. Also Mac releases his fish, he doesn't have time to get 10 clear shots of them, or run to the neighbors and borrow their video camera. Whereas that boar is dead and not going any place fast. You'd think the father would of at least called the local newspaper to come out and take some photos, so his boy could be in the paper. I think it being such an isolated event when it easily couldn't of been is probably what makes me the most suspicious. But like I said earlier, the case isn't closed yet, there should still be 1,051 pounds of pig corpse floating around out there (even if they're in a couple dozen different garbage bags). There also may be better photos, perhaps the father just posted the four shots with the whole pig in them on the website because they are the most spectacular; whereas a half-baked objectivist like myself would rather see like a 1/4th of the pig clearly in focus.
If those four photos are it though, and the taxidermist ends up excaping to Timbuktu with the unfinished mount, I'm sticking with my insufficient evidence to prove that such an animal actually existed opinion.

There is talk of a direct correlation with the movie The Legend of Hogzilla coming out. Hoax for hype? We'll see. Only time will tell.

When you think you know it all, its time to quit. Knowledge should be gained on every trip.

RE:1100lb. Hog Killed By 11 yr old! - TRUTH REVEALED
Alright, it seems the truth is starting to reveal itself. I just read this in the paper.
I quote:
The huge hog that became known as "Monster Pig" after being hunted and killed by an 11-year-old boy had another name: Fred. The not-so-wild pig had been raised on an Alabama farm and was sold to the Lost Creek Plantation just four days before it was shot there in a 150-arce fenced area, the amimal's former owner said. Jamison Stone shot the huge hog during what he and his father described as a three-hour chase. They said it was more than 1,000 pounds and 9 feet long; if anything, it looked bigger in a now-famous photo of the hunter and the hunted.
End quote.
Interesting. [-x Sounds like a bunch of hillbillys with nothing to do but torment and kill a huge pig that was hand fed and farm raised to obscure size. WOW!

RE:1100lb. Hog Killed By 11 yr old! - TRUTH REVEALED
Geez, I guess it is real then! What a freak of nature... er, well, freak of a domesticated animal anyway. No wonder it didn't charge or anything, it probably had lost its fear of man and didn't understand what was happening. I still find it completely astounding that even hand fed it could reach such a size, but I guess it makes a lot more sense.
When I first read this story I would of been happy had it been true, which it is, due to boars being an invasive species introduced in the states around the late 1800s (?) that can cause a lot of damage to an ecosystem. Now that I know it was someone's pet chilling out on private property the story's just kind of a huge bummer.

RE:1100lb. Hog Killed By 11 yr old! - TRUTH REVEALED
Would holding a 25 pound bass by the lower lip tear the tendons in its mouth, thereby killing the fish? If it does, why wouldn't Mac be supporting some weight in his hands? He wouldn't want to kill it, because it was not elgible for world record. This sorta gives me some doubt about the picture.fishnislife wrote:In reply to Fish-or-man?:
Well here is a picture of a 25lb 1oz bass that big bass hunter Mac Weakley got out of Dixon Lk in Cali last March.
That would have easily eclipsed the world record bass mark if it had not been foul hooked.
So I do think there is potential for any species under the right conditions to grow to enormous sizes. Look at humans, do you think years ago they thought a person could weigh over a 1000lbs?
I dunno, I will believe it's true until proven otherwise.

I was wondering the same thing about holding a fish that big from the mouth maybe hurting the fish. But it is a true story. I am a member of the N.A.F.C. and in there magizine thats availible to the members. There was a huge article on this man and his fish. He would have had the world record but he was such an honest person he admitted to the foul hook, he brought to shore to have it weighed and threw it back in. Then the next issue of the N.A.F.C. magazine showed the man and 2 of his buddys, they fish at the lake where the world record lerks every single day in hopes of hooking up the the bigun again. Now this article is around a year old and they havnt been in the magizine since so my guess is the big boy is still out thereiPodrodder wrote:Would holding a 25 pound bass by the lower lip tear the tendons in its mouth, thereby killing the fish? That fish's jaw is so strong I don't think it would do any damage to hold it like that. But it would be a smart thing to support it with the other hand. Mac is a big fish hunter and I don't doubt his credibility. I heard about the whole story from people that were there.
Two teenager were out fishing when they saw the bass on a bed and they tried for a long time to get her to bite. When they came in they couldn't stop talking about this huge fish. Well, Mac Weakley and Jed Dickerson got a call from the lake office telling them to come down right away. Him and Jed Dickerson paid the kids $1200 to tell them where they saw the fish bedded down at and not to fish her anymore. The next morning when the lake opened it was a buzz with people. Mac and Jed were all ready fishing her before the gates opened. They tried for hours and some eye witnesses said that Mac would toss a jig on the bed and take a homerun swing everytime across it. He ended up snagging her in the side of the head.
These guys are great big fish hunters and have a lot of respect for the sport, but I think in this instance they got a little over zealous to break the record. I would have rather seen Mike Long catch her than anyone else. I can almost guarantee Mike will be the one to break the world record in the near future. Actually, he has caught this same fish out of Dixon before and Jed Dickerson has caught her once before too (pix below). It has steadily grown 1lb every year and is over record status during spawn. Dixon is a tricky lake. It is gin clear water and bass can see you coming from a mile away. Plus it is pressured hard due to the fact that it has mosters in it.

Man, I wish I was one of those kids who got paid $1200 for telling them where the bass was bedding. I think I would have charged $1500 though LOL
