Verizon Wireless Top Cell Phones - What do you use?
What cell phone do you prefer? I'm looking at the Blackberry Pearl 8130, Samsung SCHu740, LGVX8700, Motorola W385, among others.

I just picked up a Nokia 6555 at Costco for $0 with coupon. This phone is pretty nice for a flip phone. I don't need much. BTW, I am with AT&T.

I have a Motorola Razr. T-Mobile. I have had the phone for over 2 years.

RE:Verizon Wireless Top Cell Phones - What do you use?
Have you had any problems with your phone Toni? It seems like all the Razrs around here just fall to pieces. My friend dropped one lightly on carpet, and now the front display doesn't work. Three others I know have completely broken their Razrs just doing normal things.
Something I have learned is to buy the cheapest practical phone you can. The manufacturers make them bulletproof because they don't want to have to do service on such a low profit phone. I dropped my phone out of a car going 30 mph (don't ask why) and the only scratch I could find on it was at the very bottom of the body where the two ends of the flip phone meet. Didn't even turn off. I've had that thing for almost two years now and it still works great. I think the only way I haven't abused it is by dropping it bare in a lake (though it did go through the wash once).

That's SOUND advice. I'm going with the Motorola W385, FREE with another 2-year upgrade. I agree with you, Razor's in general are peices of junk. I owned one for one year and the screen broke just due to a change in temperature from around 32F to 68F. Cheapest is really the best in MOST ALL senarios. I'm going with the 385 and have done a good amount of research and look forward to a basic, solid phone that is reliable and sturdy.iPodrodder wrote: Something I have learned is to buy the cheapest practical phone you can.

I got the Envy...I enjoy Verizon's service.
I suggest, because of the brands: Blackberry and LG's. I don't have much of a preference for Samsungs or Motorola's....

I agree with Verizon's service. They do have great service. Why don't you like Samsung or Motorola phones? I'm just curious because I'm about to make a purchase in the coming days here and needed some input...have you had problems with these suppliers? I was looking into the Blackberry Pearl 8130 from Verizon, I think my brother is going to get one this weekend, but I am on the fence as to what to get - I love Verizon, just not sure on the phone. I primarily use it for lots of calling and texting. I don't use the music player (V Cast, etc)...and what not, so I don't need that...Blue Tooth compatable is key, but other than that, I just need a phone that runs great, runs long on a good long charge and is reliable. I've heard the new BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is a good phone, do you find that to be the case Sam, even though you use an enV? I've had good luck with Samsungs, not so much with Motorola's though, so I'd like to see what phones you think are worthy of further investigation, if not purchase from Verizon...they have that one LG VX8700 that is nice, a little out of my price range though.Sam Kafelafish wrote:I got the Envy...I enjoy Verizon's service.

My son has gone through 2 razrs and a trace in the time I have had my razr. I did buy a new battery for it. I have dropped it (on pavement), my grandson has drooled on it until it acted funny-I turned it off and let it dry out. It works. Got sand in the hinges from dropping it on the sand by the river. The hinge is loosening up so it doesn't close all the way sometimes. I just reopen it and close it again. It goes back into place. I have looked at new phones but I don't really see one I want. I chose this one because of the large screen and large key pad. I wear bi-focals so that helps out. I might just get the new V3.
I know that I don't over use it. My sons do. One has a Samsung trace and the other a Samsung t629 and they have had problems with both of them. They can use over 10,000 text in a month.

RE:Verizon Wireless Top Cell Phones - What do you use?
I had a Verizon EnV for a year and a half and loved it. I beat the heck out of that thing and the only thing other than cosmetic damage was the vibrate function stopped working. It met its end last week when it fell out of my pocket and I backed over it with my Jeep. Luckily, I just got issued a Blackberry (T-mobile) for work so I just use that now. It is one of the older models that is so-so. I keep looking out for a decent priced T-mobile Curve or 8800 that is w/o a sim card or contract attached.
The EnV gets my vote... It is a full featured phone w/ a qwerty keyboard, halfway decent camera, and pretty darn durable. I think they are only $80 w/ a new or renewed two year contract.

The new Voyager came out from Verizon. A great phone for the younger crowd (texting and calling)....
LG and Blackberry seem to be durable. All I hear about Motorola's is that they aren't durable, and I don't like how they are configured and find that they are much more difficult/confusing to use. Samsungs aren't bad, I just prefer LG and Blackberry ahead of them...

I have had Verizon cell service and phones for years and they have been great. We switched to Nextel when my work went with them several years ago and issued all of us phones. So we have Nextel and it has also been great. The actual phone is by Motorola, the I760 I think. My work Nextel is the I530 which is a “rugged” type phone so if you drop it, it survives the impact.

I splurged...went with the Voyager, and wow am I happy! This thing has long battery life of 4-5 hours and is so functionable. Love Verizon and love the VX10000!

OK, OK, my over 2 year old razor died. The screen quit lighting up. Well, technically it does still work. I can get calls in and make calls I just can't see what is on the screen.

If it's two years old you should be able to get a new phone now that your past the 2 year upgrade period.

Yeah many people don't realize that they are eligible for an upgrade after 2 years, regardless if you are a new or pre-existing customer. I would trade that phone in for something that fits your needs.Sam Kafelafish wrote:If it's two years old you should be able to get a new phone now that your past the 2 year upgrade period.

Actually, I know all about the upgrade but it comes with a 2 year contract to get the better price. I have had the razr because I didn't want another year (2 years ago I took a 1 yr. contract). I would rather just have the phone and service without the contract but I signed the 2 year to get the phone at the $80 mark. I got the new razr2. They have beefed up the hinge which was the problem in the old phone. It has voice! It just read to me a text my son sent. Too cool! Just hope it lasts as long as the other one.

RE:Verizon Wireless Top Cell Phones - What do you use?
Well from personal experience, I've owned 2 Razors, they are really crappy. Battery life is bad, and they do not survive falls on the ground. One day my glass screen (the 1" display) just cracked...it shattered for no reason. I did have insurance, so that did help. I now have the new LG VX10000, or the Voyager and it's an amazing phone that has decent battery life, and I can text really fast with the full QWERTY keyboard. However, I did pay $300+ for the phone that came with the upgrade, but I love it! However, not all Razors are bad, and the phone you have is beefed up like you said and is a very good phone now...CNET likes it, along with many other people I know...so I would stick with it, rather than forking up a ton of money for a multimedia phone, unless you are 100% certain you need something like the Voyager...the Voyager is so simple to use...my young relatives could use it! Well, that's my opinion...I would also say that the LG VX8700 is a stellar phone, probably one of the best phones that Verizon has to offer...worth a look, but it's still $229.00 with a new 2-year service agreement/renewal.Toni wrote:Actually, I know all about the upgrade but it comes with a 2 year contract to get the better price. Depends on how good you are with it. The better you treat it, the more life you get out of it...Toni wrote:

i have had two razrs and my first one ran like a champ for 2 years until just yesterday (ironic) the screen totally dies. i was so P/O'ed i trew it across the room!, i did have problems with it before like the hing covers popping off but i accidentally dropped it in the lake numerous times and it worked afterwards with little to no side affects.

RE:Verizon Wireless Top Cell Phones - What do you use?
My son did have 2 razr's in a year. So I know I take a chance. One reason I chose the razr in the first place was the key pad size and screen size and the fact that the key pad lights up. I went to get a w490 but when I saw that it was about an inch smaller than my old phone I didn't want it. The deal they had at the tmobile store in wal-mart was better (78.99 with a 2 yr contract) than online (199.99 with 2 yr contract). I did get the insurance.
This new phone is larger and heavier than the old. I like that! I am happy so far. I have dropped my old phone before and it was ok. This new one is very slippery. I will have to watch it.
