Loaded up the boat this morning, got it hooked up, checked my list, hit the road, hit the water. got to my spot, dropped the trolling motor and went to plug in the foot control......

I guess I can drop anchor or troll.. .no way I'm going home to pick up the controls, but it did get added to my list.

Not a good way to start the day...

Mike- ever take off from the house, leaving the oars to your pontoon boat at home because you figure that there isn't any wind, you'll just kick around the lake. Then when you arrive and unload, reality strikes and you realize you forgot your fins!#-o
Have you ever tried to move a pontoon boat with just your wading shoes!!!

By then I'd have turned around and gone back to get both...

Never hurts to just bring the oars and leave em in the rig if you really dont wanna have them on the boat...

Sounds like our trip to Banks on Saturday. I forgot to put the wing nuts back on my trolling motor battery, and didn't realize it until I went to hook it up after we were on the water!!!! I lucked out and was able to tension the leads to provide just enough contact so the trolling motor worked. Used it most of the day that way too!

I am always making U-turns shortly after leaving the house.

I learned the hard way not to forget an extra pair of clothes and a net. Last year at dog lake, I had a lunker on that would not land. I don't know how big, but it was a really really nice fish. Everytime it got close, it took off again. This went on for a while. Long story short, the fish and I both ended up in the water, the line broke, and I was left in ice cold water thinking "why didn't I bring a net." I'm sure I got some strange looks from onlookers when I shouted out a few choice profanities, while dragging myself out of the cold water.... "you can never be too prepared"

I am always making U-Turns as well, especially when I am taking little kids with me. Packing for a family you always forget something.

Great idea for a topic! I feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only forgetful fisherman out there. We are always pulling u-turns on our way to the lake. And u-turns aren't easy with a tandem-axle trailer! I once backpacked a float tube miles into the Cascade range only to realize I'd forgotten my fins. My buddy was kind enough to loan me one of his but we both struggled all weekend to kick in a straight line and not in circles. I'm sure we looked drunk to any fish or bird watching us!

More recently, we've left the front door wide open, the garage door open with the dogs running around out front and just this Saturday the cooler with all the cool drinks on the kitchen table! I haven't forgotten a child at home yet, but heck, they're still young and it could still happen!

But sometimes even getting there with all your gear you can still get into trouble. About 30 minutes after a float plane dropped a buddy and me off about 75 miles in the Alaska interior for a couple of days of fishing, the screw that holds the handle on my reel threaded off and the whole handle fell into the river! There was no way I was going to sit on a riverbank swiping at hummingbird-sized mosquitos and watch him fish! So, I took the screwdriver blade of my Leatherman multi-tool and used a rock to bash it tightly into the square hole on the reel and spent the weekend catching 10-40lb kings by spinning an open Leatherman around in circles with my index finger!!

Next time? Backup rod and a backpack full of reels! (Well, extra rods & reels will be on my LIST, anyway but remembering to bring them along is another story!

Well - as unfortunate, and embarrassing as it is...I am sure that I have you all beat or at least tied with someone not willing to admitt -

Anyone ever forget the key to the boat ? End up fishing from the shore for the day and drag home a dry boat ?
I now keep the key to the boat in the truck - and away from my wife - long story short, we were cleaning the boat getting ready for the next day - she saw the key in the ingition of the boat and decided to take it in the house for safe keeping - I did not even think of double checking. NOW it is clipped on the dashboard where I can see it.

But still don't think it is as bad as the guy I saw on Opening Day @ West Medical who launched his boat and FORGOT TO PUT IN THE PLUG...an Inboard, flooded a good portion of the back end before his friends could get his attention to bring the trailer back down the launch. Never saw if he made it out on the lake or not.

WEll - At least my boat was dry... o:)

I just did it. I got all the way to the lake and realized I had forgot my liscense. I guess I'm lucky the lake is only a 5 minute drive from the house. see ya!

we went on a fishing trip with our 4 kids using 2 cars. heading home we were an hour into our drive when we pulled over at a rest stop and realized one of the kids was missing. hurried back and found him with a group of people we were next to that day. always made a head count after that. my dad did this when i was about 10 there was 5 kids in our family, we had left a campground and had been on the road about 5 hrs when my mother noticed that my 5 year old brother wasn,t in the back seat.(we traveled late in the evening). we headed back to the campground and it was raining hard and a woman found him under a trailer. like father like son.LOL

It is stories like these that make me nervous about becoming a father!!!!!!!!!!

it hasn't been so bad, just be shure you have something covering that bucket of bluegillor perch, kids seem to take a liking to picking them out and sticking the head in thier mouths. you,ll know you forgot when you hear sucking sounds. <')//<

because i like to move around alot when i shore fish i had this great idea of keeping an i on my oldest son who at the time was about 1 yr old. i got this backpack version of a child carrier. things were great untill i had on this nice pike. the exitement got the best of me (again) and as i bent down to grab the fish my son went into the water with a big splash. good news though i was able to get them both out of the water just fine and the right one on the stringer, of course i had to do some fish talk to explain why our son was damp when we got home. <')//<

this one sucks especially after a long drive. one time we had to end up renting a boat because we were just to far away with no key... talk about disapointed.

i have forgot poles, keys, tackle, fins, tubes, stringer, well the list just goes on and on. us fisherman are forgetfull folk lol

I can top that, one time I forgot the battery, the moter, and!!!!! the oars wasted a whole day of fishing.
