Shimano Bantam Mag bait caster (once owned by Mike Carey)

Post by The Quadfather » Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:55 pm

If there ever was a "Work horse" of a fishing reel that I've owned it is this one. This is an older Shimano Bantam Mag, baitcasting reel. The reel has been around the block for sure. I bought it from Mike Carey, almost 10 years ago.
Right hand retrieve.

I use as a very capable trolling reel for trolling cutthroat in Lk. WA. and Kokanee, etc. It is smooth as silk, and covers the simple task of trolling like a champ. Would bass guys want to use it as it was designed to pitch bass baits.... I can't say that you would in that capacity, when there are so many more modern and smooth bearing reels on the market today, but if you're a budget basser, then maybe start here.

The Pros: I use it to troll alongside a $200.00 Shimano Curado 201E7....I prefer this one WAY better for trolling purposes.
Also, the thing comes up in online sales for $20.00, so I can't ask even that much.

The Cons. Not nearly as sexy as the Curado. :-" ..... Oh, speaking of the Curado, that will get posted prob. tomorrow as well.

And for what makes it "Priceless" It was originally owned by Mike Carey, prob. still has his DNA on it.

$10.00 (My images gave me trouble, and I am aware of sizing.. so the images shown are not the actual reel, but the same model)

Is it autographed [tongue]
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Ya, I met you near Evergreen hosp. It is such a great trolling reel for kokanee and cutts. However, I recently have fallen head over heals with these vintage Abu Ambassadeur 5000 reels from 1952-1970. Such an amazing well made vintage reel. (Just doesn't look right having an odd ball Shimano hanging off the boat and not matching) [-(

I totally get that. Functionally, it doesn't matter, but asthetically it does. I now have everything in sets of two for trolling and pulling plugs. I have three white and one red lamiglas kokanee rods. I'm going to feel out of balance all season. :-k
