Looking for a scotty downrigger for Arima
Looking for a scotty downrigger for Arima
I am looking for a basic downrigger for my Arima. Since I have had it I have switched it over to Scotty Pole Holsders, and setup for the Ace Line Hauler (AWESOME For Crabbing and Shrimping)
I think I want to stay with Scotty, and Don't have the funds for a Electric. Looking probablly used for 75-$100.
Thoughts? Its a 16 Arima, and although I see alot of Penn stuff on CL. I am not sure I wanna be hanging out 4' off the side off of Point Roberston!
Any suggestions on where to look for an in expensive used down rigger?

Besides CL, and looking for a "Local" auction via Ebay... don't forget to go into other fishing forums classified's section. If you don't see something posted there, you can place a Wanted Ad. At least you are speaking to people who are in the know.
You audience may have downriggers sitting in their garage. The reason I even mentioned "Local Auction" on Ebay, is that living in the NW here, there is a lot of buying/selling over Ebay of fishing related items. If you customize your search to only show items within 100 miles of your zip code, you may hit on something.

One should not reach out to retrieve a downrigger ball or clip, that's what a retrieval system is for. This can be as simple as using a boat hook, gaff or similar device to retrieve the clip or line without having to lean over the gunwale. The more sophisticated systems involve a clip or "doughnut" that is fitted over the downrigger line and has a hand line attached to the boat with which to pull the ball close when needed. Scotty sells them or you can fab your own. While we are on the subject, lengthen your release clips to about 5' or so. With this length, the ball can be near the surface of the water and you can have the clip in hand without leaning over the side. It makes fishing much easier and safer!triehl27 wrote: Thoughts? My \Scottys are on swivel mounts. It makes it easy to spin the downrigger arm to my reach. Swivel mounts for the Scottys are very nice.

I have 2 electric Scottys and a Penn Fathommaster I would like to sell. The are all in pretty good shape. Will send pictures if you want. $400 for both Scottys and $225 for the Fathommaster. I will send pictures if you would like!

Ack! I just bought a Scotty at Tacoma Boat. Got an 1085 for $100. They had several manuals, 1050, 1085, Penn 600 and a couple of lake trollers of various makes.
Can't wait to get out on the water!
