tying steelhead jigs
I have been tying a lot of the basic colors including purples, pinks and nightmares but I want to try some other colors as well, any suggestions. I make jig heads, paint them and then tie them as well and I actually just started making dink floats as well so almost any color combo is possible to make. Any ideas?

WOW, the sky is the limit. It is thought by scientiest that Steelhead see colors from red through UV, so each of those colors might work on a given day. I still go with the bright and clear water/days, using bright colors - dark days and dirty water, dark colors.
With that in mind, tie some blacks, browns, reds, yellows (not my favorite), ....... you get the idea.

I think the most overlooked color is orange. Everyone thinks of pink, but I do very well with orange. Orange and white or orange and purple or orange and blue.
When using pink, I think my favorite is pink and drk blue.

whatever colors, go for contrasts.. light/dark, bright/dull
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

yeah I started doing that a lot, I tie some sweet marabou and chenille jigs that have a pink head, white body and black and pink tail and they look crazy good just haven't had the chance to try them yet but I am hoping they will work on skook fish.Gringo Pescador wrote:whatever colors, go for contrasts.. light/dark, bright/dull
Anyone have any luck with a pattern called sunrise or sherbert it has orange, red and white in it I heard it is really good so I am going to start tying some of those.

Don't forget rainbow. Rainbow does the trick every time, low water, high water, dirty clean. Rainbow.
