Re: outboards
Be very careful with this practice. Running a fuel injected motor dry is hard on the fuel pump(s) which rely on fuel as lubricant/coolant AND the injectors. Be sure this practice is recommended by your motor manufacturer before doing this or you could face an expensive repair.sickbayer wrote:and run it dry after each use seems a good self preventative maintenance routine.

Re: outboards
Ooh.....i didn't think about that..i used to do it all the time with my 03 Yamaha t8. I figured sometimes it didn't get used for months at a time when I worked away so it was better to run it dry rather than leave fuel in it.

Re: outboards
Just a guess.... maybe running an engine dry is more applicable to the older 2 strokes when premix is used.... just a guess. Old practice used on old motors by some of us old guys and our grandfathers.... ;)

Re: outboards
Yep better to leave the stabilized (lubricated) fuel through out the system so gaskets and O rings don't dry out. If you were going to put an outboard up for an extended period, say a year or so then I'd run it dry and fog the cylinders.

Re: outboards
Toms outboard told me to run my 8hp Nissan dry after use but not To in my larger motors.
