Be very careful with this practice. Running a fuel injected motor dry is hard on the fuel pump(s) which rely on fuel as lubricant/coolant AND the injectors. Be sure this practice is recommended by your motor manufacturer before doing this or you could face an expensive repair. [wink]

Ooh.....i didn't think about that..i used to do it all the time with my 03 Yamaha t8. I figured sometimes it didn't get used for months at a time when I worked away so it was better to run it dry rather than leave fuel in it.

Just a guess.... maybe running an engine dry is more applicable to the older 2 strokes when premix is used.... just a guess. Old practice used on old motors by some of us old guys and our grandfathers.... ;)

Yep better to leave the stabilized (lubricated) fuel through out the system so gaskets and O rings don't dry out. If you were going to put an outboard up for an extended period, say a year or so then I'd run it dry and fog the cylinders.

Toms outboard told me to run my 8hp Nissan dry after use but not To in my larger motors.
