There's so many out there.... and with tech advancing, older tech price decreases a bit... sometimes worth waiting, but not too long.. :)

I'm very happy with the Lowrance HDS units. Yes I'm still learning the 10 after having it for a year and 3 months and the 12 since Sept., but time and experimenting more will teach me a bunch more. I've also tooled up Lake Sammamish in the dense fog this past Oct. by following a previous trail on my chart from a couple weeks earlier.

LOL still learning here as well... some channel markers quick saved have moved, I'd like to delete these quick save marks but don't want to lose all of the others... LOL I still have to read up on it...... so I don't delete ALL.... uff duh, that would suck! LOL real old school LMS 350A... It's like using a rotary phone! LOL but she done me good off the coast this year so no complaints. :cheers:

Ya, I've deleted some waypoints that I was fooling around with. On mine I just put the curser on it, 'click' and then you can delete it. Or you can go to the list of waypoints and pick out the ones you want to delete, IF you know the number/name of those waypoints. I haven't named any of my waypoints, just using those icons like rocks, and weeds, and fish. I've fooled around with naming one or 2 just to learn, but didn't save the name. Much more to learn on my part.

It just seems like it would be the best fish finder for the money. If it does all that it says it does. I did notice that his transducer was mounted pretty far (to me it seemed pretty far) below the transom. Not certain of that. Head scratching. They do come with the transom mount transducers and I believe a clamp for the trolling motor if I wanted. Doesnt apply to my boat though. I hear you on waiting for prices to drop, but it makes staring at my low tech lowrance x-4 pro that much more difficult! lol Especially since I have had/still have good finders/plotters. On my 26 foot crownie I have a Garmin GPS Map. Does its job pretty well. No down scan, but we do not use it for fishing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktqc-FPpS4Q" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

mines a 1993 model... my quick saves I use are icons, not sure the coords are on there... unless I quicksave the "waypoint". I freely admit, I've only learned what I need since I still use paper charts ect. Well over a hundred saved and named waypoints besides the icons.

That Elite 5 HDI looks great. Maybe compare that with the 7 and compare prices also. Then decide.

I use my x4 pro for my jon boat cartopper... and as a back up FF on my 17'silverstreak... easy to switch back and forth. enables me to run full screen on my plotter and separate FF. see what you mean though.. low tech.

you can play with the depth of the ducer, it's a trade off of while under way, further up, more protection but lose sight of the bottom at speeds.... I'd hate to lose mine on kelp or stick at speed so, I lose the bottom at higher speed...I'm ok with that.

I think it's 6.4" or so, but I might be thinking of a different/HDS series. You'll have to look on Lowrance's web site, and also compare features of the 2.

7" that's great. If the features vs price is favorable, then I'd try to save enough for the 7".

Oof duh! HDS vs HDI..... my head is spinning.. I'm getting off of here for a few... I'm not qualified to spend someone elses money just yet and I need an aspirin. ;) I should have hit the sportsman show or that PSA meet in Edmonds that covered electronics about a month or so ago. :)

The price is a bit different between the 5" and 7", something like $250.

Just watched some videos and such of it and that's a pretty impressive unit! So is say it's between the dragonfly and the hdi?

I keep jumping back to the elite 5 hdi. There are some concerns on te Raymarine regarding sealing issues and the transducer being 6 inches long.
