RE:New Fly Tube
So what's the verdict Kutt? Have you picked one up yet?
I too am in the market for a new float tube. I am leaning towards the Togiak. They have them at Sam's Club for under a $100, but of course I'm not a member.

Definitely the Fat Cat is the way to go. A little past my budget right now and if I were to spend $200 on a float tube I would just save up a little more and go for a nice boat. But that is a great deal. One that should be taken advantage of.

I have a boat right now, but I'm not sure if a 12' fish hunter is a good boat for fly fishing with an electric motor? Does a fly tube offer more benefits, than say, a 12' fish hunter with a minnekota trolling motor? Can you use electric trolling motors of special regs lakes for the most part? What is your opinion?fishnislife wrote:Definitely the Fat Cat is the way to go. I had one of those 12' Fish Hunters...It's tough to get more then about 2 years outta it. They just don't last.kuttkilla wrote: I have a boat right now, but I'm not sure if a 12' fish hunter is a good boat for fly fishing with an electric motor? If you went for a Minn Kota, then you would have to buy a wooden transom for the fish hunter boat...
If I were you, just get a Minn Kota for your current boat.
Most lakes allow electric trolling motors. I only know of one in the state that doesn't allow them and it's no where near here so you don't gotta worry about it...
I fish a special regs lake all the time and they are allowed. Heck, even gas motors are allowed at certain times...

Good to know, thanks Sam-K. Is there a good trolling motor worth purchasing?Sam Kafelafish wrote:I had one of those 12' Fish Hunters...It's tough to get more then about 2 years outta it. RE:New Fly Tube
There is more than just one lake that restricts electric motors. Be sure to check the regs closely.
RE:New Fly Tube
For the Fish Hunter inflatables? Sevylor does make a motor for those boats...It just runs right through two holes on the back of the boat. Hard to explain, but its around $80 and it's meant to mount to the sevylor boat...kuttkilla wrote:Good to know, thanks Sam-K. RE:New Fly Tube
Just purchased the Trout Unlimited Togiak Float Tube from Dick's for $118. I did a ton of research on tubes the past two weeks to come to this conclusion and to find the best price. Sam's Club has them for under a $100 but I couldn't find anyone I knew in this state who was a member. The only other tube I was tempted to get was the Fish Cat 4. Great tube but a little more pricey. I think the Togiak is exactly what I am looking for. I will give an update to how she fishes once I get her in the water.

Not a bad thing sometimes. I wish I would have been sitting in a bright boat like that years back when I almost got hit by a skier on the Spokane River8-[ :pale:kuttkilla wrote: With that new tube you'll be seen miles away, even in the darkest hours of the night, you'll glow like a candle.:bounce:

RE:New Fly Tube
Has anyone ordered online from Dick's Sporting Goods before?
That is were I picked this up from and I just got done reading some horrible reviews. I hope I didn't make a bad decision ordering online from them.

RE:New Fly Tube
Wow. That sounds serious. Almost got hit by a skiier on the Spokane River? Wow. I'm speechless. First, what was a skiier doing on the river, and second, what were you doing in a float tube on the Spokane River? Must have been a slow moving or dammed up stretch of river...You gotta tell the whole story man...Marc Martyn wrote:Not a bad thing sometimes. RE:New Fly Tube
Well, first off it was many years ago, about 1979. I was on the stretch just west of the Argonne bridge where the water moves slow. There used to be a public launch on the north side where people would launch ski boats and water ski from the bridge down to the dam. I was floating the north side fairly close to the bank. A skier came down along the bank and was heading right at me. I started waving my hands and shouting and at the last 30 feet he saw me and turned sharply. I haven't fished that section of the river since. There are some very large rainbows in that section of the river, but can't bring myself to go back and try it.
That portion of the river is now off limits to the boating public, mainly because of too many people killed from alcohol related boating accidents. That area was very ridden with drugs, drunks and wild parties. The launch is closed and I think there is a speed limit on the river.

Take no offense to this at all, but I'm picturing this and am laughing out loud to myself. I know it was a serious deal and many a bad things could have happened to you (and thankfully you're OK), but just picturing this is hilarious...It's like "Uncle Buck" in the "Great Outdoors" -- man that's a great movie. I just can picture someone waving their hands and dropping their rod and screaming dear lord mercy...wow...I'm surprised they allowed skiing on it back in the late 70's...I wasn't even born.Marc Martyn wrote: I started waving my hands and shouting and at the last 30 feet he saw me and turned sharply.
