lakes that you cant keep fish

Post by JT26 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 1:44 pm

are there lakes that have been stocked in the past or just have a good population of trout where its c&r only? it really sucks that all the stockers are gone after a month in normal lakes

Just look at the regulations for C & R lakes. They exist, but mostly to protect native fish. Still, I feel your pain.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Not too many CNR only lakes. The Special Regs will identify if a particular lake is CNR only. One lake I know of for sure is Pass Lake near Deception Pass.

I know of a few lakes out near Duvall where I C&R most everything I catch; even the 17" holdovers. It's a put and take lake, and it is getting a good stocking in April. I have choosen to just fish 2-3 lakes and really get it down for the trout, and on some I C&R exclusively, while on other larger lakes I take some fish for the smoker. I'm not really about farm raised trout; I like em wild, but there are some put and take lakes that still hold up well into October that I fish on a weekly basis and always do well.

I cant really think of any CnR only lakes off the top of my head. Rocky ford creek is a very popular fly fishing only creek that is strictly CnR. Cedar river is CnR only I hear that really kicks out some nice trout (but they did open if for retention of SMB and whitefish)

Oh, there is Lake Lenore that is CnR for half the season.

Then there is a number of selective gear 1 fish daily limit out in Grant county. Merry , Nunually, Lenice and dusty and there is a few more in the CNWR.

Stan coffin lake in grant county is CnR on for bass

A lake thats closer that you might want to check out w/ your raft is Shady in the Renton area. It opens June 1st and the reseidence on the lake dump in a lot of big fish. Also you are only allowed to keep 1 fish over 14" a day. Not the CnR you are looking ofr but still should be some bigger fish

That is not true, they just get smarter, from seeing all the stuff we put into the water.
I limit with the stocker fish 99% of the time all year long in all the popular lakes, before I target
the larger fish or another type of fish.
August is the only month I have problems with, due to heat. You need to try different things.
I troll all the time, hint.

Heat in August can be killer, not only for the fishing, but also brutal on the fisherman/woman. I would suggest limit trolling to the really early morning hours and the late, late evening hours when the fish are more active and bug activity is at its highest. August is when a lot of mill-foil becomes a problem and the fish become lethargic...sometimes not fishing just to give the fish a break or hittin up a local fly fishing stream like the Middle Fork is a better idea, rather than stressing the fish further in warm water...

i know that they go deeper in during this time, right?
So will it work to mooch (idk what to call it for trout in lakes) at the bottom? i know one trout lake with a 50ft spot.

Come august if you want trout, it gets a lot harder but its sti possible. I would either work deeper lakes with under water springs or inlet/outlet creeks. Hit the eastside of the mountains. Its a lot hotter over there, but it seems like the trout are use to it as long as the lake is deep enough. Fish durring low light periods a) its cooler and b) not as much water activity. (Lakes get pretty wild with skiers durring august.) Switch over to lakes with brown trout. Or what I do 90% of the time switch over to crappie and salmon.

Run through the regs and you will find several lakes nearby that are either selective gear or CnR only.

These tend to be my favorite lakes due to the fact that they produce the best for me...

SHHHHH! do people really need to know about Shady lake? LOL.....I know it's not a secret but that lake is awesome fishing..and there are bigguns in there! That lake is close to me and guaranteed a few fish every time out. It has to be the late opener/ and heavy plant combo. I talked to one resident who says that the state and home owners plant the lake. You should see it on the 4th of July! Good times

I heard shadow lake is also a pretty good lake w/ some nice crappie but you need a boat to get out of the canal. Also some nice smallies in there too, and truth behind this? And isnt spring lake in that area as well?
