A cheater to me sounds like an extra lure is being used which sounds Fishy (excuse the pun). When I do use a Dick nite I have my weight on the bottom with a 3 way swivel a few feet above the weight with a 2-3' leader with a dick-nite tied on it.It must be done on a moving river. At slack tide a dick-nite would seem useless. The way I said on a moving water situation would let the Dick-nite flow with the current.I imagine you could set it up much like a Flatfish in the river also which is slid down the line after youve casted and got your weight to stop rolling.Hope that helps. If not go to the Dick nite website. They have instructions there.

The dick nite and cheater/yarn were not used together.

They are different set ups. One rod of fisherman A uses the DN, and the other rod of fisherman B uses the C/Y.

Or if you just have 1 rod/fisherman, just switch back and forth between the rigs.

Good luck .....Take a spare change of clothes with you or you might have to give your boss a fish,if you come in smelling like one.1 hour you should be able to limit..

Cheaters are like corkies. Just a different brand (Beaumac).

Not as round as a corky...more like a egg shape (chicken egg). You can buy them weighted, also. I caught my first silver this year in the Puyallup with one (non-weighted).

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Hi,

It was me that caught the silver on a cheater and yarn last week in the Snohomish. I have no river fishing experience from a boat and am not sure of the terminology of rigs used for rivers but I will try to describe what I was using. By the way, this rig was set up by a guide who is my friend and a police officer, nothing "fishy". No offense taken :). The line was 10 pound test. From the end of the line there was a swivel that ran 10 inches of line (8 pound test) to a cannon ball sinker which wasn't very big. Also from the swivel ran a leader (5 feet long) to the cheater with yarn. The cheater with yarn looked like a corky with yarn (chartreuse) followed by a hook, then a second corky and another hook. We also ran the same set up but using a 50/50 brass/chrome Dick Nite. I know that this is a crummy description but that is how I remember it. Sorry I couldn't provide more or better info. Good luck.

I think he's talking about a side drift rig. You can buy then pre-tied. I'm not sure about the regs and which rivers you can use them on.

I don't think they are legal in the Puyallup or Carbon rivers, because of the hook above the cheater. Also it has barbs.
