yeah those and gamis are a little too much for my taste, I am guessing you guys do pretty well on your home ties, I for some reason hardly use them mainly because I do not have confidence in them but will start not time I go out, I am really liking some patterns I started making.

It is the easiest to control the heat, but even with that you can still melt the lead. 1/8 jig only needs to be held in front of heat gun for about 3-5 seconds, dip, hold in front of heat gun again for 3-5 seconds and dip in water(to cool) and done. You can cure them in the oven at 325 for 20 min and then they are pretty dam tough.
I wondered about rigging a little toaster oven to heat em in before dipping, never thought about curing them after.

I know powder is definately faster - if I were doing high production that is definately the route I would go. I'm all set up for vinyl now, built a little hot box, so I can dip and hang about 200 in an hour, dry over night and do the next coat. So with primer, color & clear coat I can have 200 ready to tie in 3 days. With powder you can probably do the same in about 2 hours!
I use a small heat gun for the powder paint. I originally got it to use on small electronics heat shrink but it works great on jigs too, about 10 to 15 seconds and they're hot enough to dip, if you go a little slower you don't need to put them in the oven. I also paint a lot of mine (when time is on my side), I just use plain old nail polish and it works great. The trick is in the prep., use an etching cleaner, like Zep Orange cleaner and it sticks real well. For some reason I never get the razz for using finger nail polish...... [razz]
