You just described cutthroat fishing on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish...they hit and run hard!Sam Kafelafish wrote: Nothings better then hooking into an 18 inch trout on 4 or 6lb test and on a 6'6" ultralight with nothing more then a small weight on your line. Just about every bow and cutt (two trout I fish most for, probably 95% of the time) I hook into trolling are hard hitters when it comes to that first strike....kuttkilla wrote:You just described cutthroat fishing on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish...they hit and run hard!Sam Kafelafish wrote: Nothings better then hooking into an 18 inch trout on 4 or 6lb test and on a 6'6" ultralight with nothing more then a small weight on your line. But nothing beats a Coho salmon in terms of hard first hit, especially when it's hungry and takes off with your lure/herring...

I can't beleive this thread is still goin, I feel famous! Ok, not really...I've had a blast reading all the comments about wedding rings and flashers in this thread. I probably will never use pop gear, but I've surendered to the wedding ring when I'm desperate. I was schoolin' someone the other day as what to buy when stocking his tackle box, and he looked in mine and saw a wedding ring and asked me about it. After telling him of my detest for them, I told him he should probably have a couple in his box.....LOL

I have to agree with the amount of worm's used when using a Wedding Ring but i still use them . As far as Pop Gear goes i'll use it if i am fishing deep and i will attach it to the downrigger and i use a small release clip on the end that i will attach the main line to and then run just a swivel and a Wedding Ring. The key is to use a small piece of worm and i prefer the thicker bulbous part of the worm as it tends to stay on the hook better.

Try a 10 1/2 foot noodle rod....a little 6" trout feels like a monster...fishin's fun no matter what you use.Sam Kafelafish wrote:Hint: Small canadian wonders catch trout just fine by themselves. I do have some ultra light pop gear wich only has 3 small blades on it. I have only used it 1 time and did catch a nice trout.
Wedding rings are great lures and will put fish in the boat. But I just dont like using them because evry time you get a bite, you have to reel in and make sure your worm is still there, and it never is, so going threw 3 or 4 dozen worms in a weekend is pretty much the norm, if all you troll is wedding rings.
I don't really love doing all the flasher stuff for trout. I mean, it would work, but I have found that it just ruins the fight and either doesn't help or makes the catching worse...

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

Funny I didnt even know what "pop gear" was, had to google it to find out....never have used them myself then again I dont troll much and when I do its usually in a rowboat with the fly rod.....not anything big.
I havent used wedding rings in a very long time, heck walmart didnt even stock the original kind, they had some of the ones with wings or whatever you call them...the pop gear looking ones, but not the ones I was used to seeing in my dad's tackle box as a kid...but i did find some at Joe's a bought a couple just in case I wanted to try one.
I hear the wedding rings work really well at West Medical.
