Aluminum welding
Aluminum welding
OK guys.... I bought the new to me boat, was working on it and found a crack up on the transom right at a bend.... Im sure it can have a gusset or brace put on and then welded to strengthen that area.... Anyone know anybody up in the North end that weld aluminum without breaking the bank? Anyone on here who does it and wants to make some cash?.... It's only a 2 1/2 " crack and I'm pretty sure it's do to the boat on the trailer, not the power of the motor....
Re: Aluminum welding
any rot in the wood?
Re: Aluminum welding
No wood in there, its all aluminum channel in the transom.... The crack is up top on the right side by the corner.... I am gonna try to post pics tomorrow.
Re: Aluminum welding
Hmm. I'd find the reason for the crack. Most aluminum boats including high end still have wood encased in the aluminum transom. Motor bouncing while trailering can do it too.

What is North end?

The first thing I would do is contact the dealer you bought it from in writing, since it is a new to you boat. Email, print it and give them a call so you're on record with finding a crack, just after purchase. Even if it is a where is as is contract. You never know, they may pay to have it fixed. And BTW Congrats! You'll have fun with that. Nice boat and I concur, no wood!
PS not many (If any) upper tier welded boats have wood in them anymore, even the transom.
