Just had to get down to Roosevelt one more time before going to fish for Kings on the lower Columbia. Took friend Scott and brother in law Dan along today. Got a little bit of a late start but managed to get poles in the water around 9:00 AM. Chased the fish that showed up at 50' but no takers. Managed to get the unheard of though. Got a DOUBLE small mouth bass on the same Mack's lure!! Take a look at the picture, how did they do that??

Moved on down to 80' and Dan got the first kokanee a beautiful 17" fish that was immature so that size class will be around for next year, yahoo!. Scott caught the second one around noon at 80' trolling a green spinner also. It was a dandy 20 incher. The "bite" stopped and the wind came up so we decided to move around 1:00. Stopped in another spot that was sheltered from the wind and proceeded to put the gear back down to 80' again. Wasn't long before I got a real beauty that was 21" long. What a strong fish; just wasn't going to come in! Those Gamagatsu # 2's really hang on and got the job done with #3 in the boat.

All in all a great day of fishing and only a bit of a boat ride going back to the launch with the blowing wind. As we approached Seven Bays we could see smoke from a huge fire that looked like it was burning close to where we had to go to get home. (I later found out the fire was 1000 acers at that time and burning like fury in the high wind.) As we got closer we could see the fire was along the highway but the wind was blowing the smoke away so passage was possible. One of the local farmers had his Huge tractor with disks on it going through the edge of the fire in a grassy filed trying to stop the fires direction towards houses further down the road. Our thoughts and prayers are with those effected by such devastation. I am again reminded how blessed we are to live where we get to catch these beautiful fish and for the freedom to do it.

Al;
You mentioned the 17" was immature, are the other two as well? Does not look like they are showing any color yet.

clawman - The smallest one had no eggs or sperm sack development yet. The two big ones were fully developed bucks about ready for action!
You're welcome Andy

You mentioned headed back to 7 bays. Did you fish up or down lake.
Heading out with some kids Wednesday and not sure if I'm going to Keller or way up lake.
Decisions decisions.

Cueballdg - Seems like the fish are spread out right now. We fished downriver concentrating on points and bays staying to the deep side.

Nice to see some great kokes still coming out of my favorite lake. Thanks for the nice report Alan and good luck on the lower Big C.

Fires are bad this year, saw the Hart Rd fire yesterday on my round robin trip. The Yale Rd fire started it's devastating burn roughly 1.5mi due east of our place so was VERY close to home. Good for us, but bad for others, the strong SW winds drove the fire in the opposite direction. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected.
