My son and I put out the pots starting at 10:30am and pulled them up at about 1pm. At first, only one pot had crab it in. (We think the other pot was put in too shallow.) However, that pot had 3 good size hardshell males with one being about 8 inches. (All Dungeness, btw.)

We put both pots out farther and checked again at 3:30 and they were completely full. We caught 7 more good size males with most of them being larger than 7" with one being 7.75". (All Dungeness again.) We had to throw back a couple of legal-sized ones because, at that point, we hit the limit.

Overall, great day for crabbing. The crab are much larger now than when we went on the 4th of July weekend.

Have you noticed that the lighter the color on the legs (white) the more apt the crabs are to being "soft shell"? For some reason, when I crab, half the keepers are soft shell.......frustrating.

I have heard that but haven't noticed. All the ones I caught of legal size have been hard shell.

WE caught quite a few softshell legal size crab in Port Angeles.last week. What we noticed was that they looked very clean compared to the hard shell crab.

Yeah if they are soft shell u can almost always tell if they are really white for sure
