Re: How do I not get skunked
Gotta add here, any guide that tells you they haven't been skunked hasn't been doing it for too long. It happens to all guides, and to think that it doesn't you are just putting on your rose colored glasses. Guides do well because they are on the river more often than not and learn where the fish ar...

Re: New drift boat almost done!
However if you use aluminum too often the hull will get tunneled. If you want to get technical aluminum is pourous metal and will over time absorb water. Both types have their drawbacks. Many of the top guides in the state run glass boats, if glass was so horrible would that be the case? If you woul...

Re: Drift Boat Input
Hey Danny, Pavati is way overpriced for the product and the door is not needed. Especially if you plan on doing the Duc, it's a boat eater and that door is asking for problems. Glass vs. Metal? I would go glass with the Guide Boats. I have rowed quite a few boats and the best tracking most durable g...

Re: How is cowlitz looking
As I said above, I've heard some decent fish being caught from the cowlitz. I, however haven't fished it at all. I have seen photos of some really nice fish coming from there though.

Re: How is cowlitz looking
Great company. The maxi jig and lil corky jig are decent jigs. The maxi jig has a nightmare model however if you are referring to the Lil Corky jig the company calls what you described as simply Black and red. Where they call the white red and black Maxi jig as nightmare. I've ordered them as well. ...

Re: How is cowlitz looking
Actually there is a standard. I Order from Johns Jigs, Hawkens Industries which includes multiple jig name brands, First Bite and many others for business. I also have tested literally hundreds of other jigs out there, the common thread... nightmare is the same color scheme. I guess you can say it's...

Re: How is cowlitz looking
Calm down there fella. I have been working in the tackle business for some time now and if I were to order a night mare jig from manufacturer and they sent me anything other than a red, white and black jig I would return it. You can call a jig color combo anything you would want I suppose, however t...

Re: How is cowlitz looking
Bodo First Bite only offers bead style metal heads for their jigs so they only come in a couple different shades. Nigthtmare coloration is White Black and red any change in color is a variation but not the original. It's not a soup do jour if it's been around for 20 years or so.

Re: Wanna/Need to catch my first steelhead
The maxi jigs are not my favorite by any stretch, actually my least favorite jig right now. I also believe the nightmare color is an over used cliche'. There are far superior color combos out there that produce far better for me personally. I will put my hand ties or my Beau Mac SMJ 10 against a nig...

Re: Wanna/Need to catch my first steelhead
One of the first mass porduced Nightmare jigs is Docs Bugger jig. There are nightmare series jigs however the orignal is Red white and black. Three primary colors, anything added is a variation on the nightmare. #63 in the Aero-jig hackle series is probably the most popular, johns jigs makes a night...

Re: Wanna/Need to catch my first steelhead
With all this wonderful information there is one thing to remember.... Time on the water and learing to read it is more valuable than any information anyone can tell you. Time on the water! Keep that in mind. Too many people become internet fisherman without ever having put in the time, while many, ...

Re: steelhead float reel
Shimano makes a good product, however don't go Sienna, go Sedona for a couple bucks more. The Sienna has too much plastic in it for my tastes. A GREAT reel for the price is the Pflueger Trion. It's priced at 39 dollars. I own a president, sedona, sienna, and a trion. Out of them all my trion is near...

Re: flourocarbon
Sorry for the horrendous run on sentence in my previous post. I was hurried in my response. The one thing to remember, flourocarbon has progressed lightyears since it first came out. Here are the facts, flourocarbon is a low stretch, dense line that is more consitent in it's diameter than monofilame...

Re: flourocarbon
Flouro leaders for both drift fishing and float fishing for steelhead are fine. The knot issue is not an issue and has never been with me. Seaguar and P-line both make awesome Flouro. Seaguar blue label is by far my go to leader. I have lost almost no fish using it. I put my gear through it's paces ...

Re: Stealing Coho From The Snaggers
I love bobber fishing the Skok and having people start asking me for eggs when I limit in 30mins..... Mind you these people were just making fun of me for fishing this way. Give a man a fish vs. Teach a man to fish. It's astounding really.
