A bad year

Post by SalmonBuster » Wed Mar 08, 2017 2:03 pm

Everyone is predicting bad salmon runs this year here in California. This is the result of the previous droughts we've had and warm ocean conditions. We have plenty of water now though. Right now the Feather is low and chocolate milk. Maybe the Spring runoffs will help. They say next years runs should be good. Fingers crossed. The river also has lots of new gravel bars. It should help the fish. :fish: I'm also hoping they get the Oroville Dam spillway repaired this Summer.

On a side note the Spring runoffs has me worried. [scared] Until they repair the spillway the emergency spillway may be used again. Over 200,000 people (me and my family included) had to evacuate. The emergency almost breached. We had to sleep in my Uncles camping trailer in a Walmart parking lot. That was not fun. I'm praying that it will not happen again.

And they are opening the spillway again on the 17th to start making room for the Spring runoff. They want to maintain the lake at 865 feet. Hopefully the river will clear up. The Feather River is the little sister of the Sacramento River. [blink]

The Feather has been really skinny for many years. Get ready for some reshaping. Water is a powerful thing. The Kings will like all the water and maybe a few new spawning beds.
