Question: What Depth / "Fish" finder to buy?

So, have about $250 laying around looking to get a transom mounted transducer and screen for my 12' aluminum boat. The reason I put "Fish" in quotes is because every time I mark them, I dont catch em, but if the screen is blank, I usually get bit. I am going to use it mainly for bottom structure scanning ie Drop offs, weed lines, stumps, ect. Wondering if anyone has found a decent - great quality to cash ratio on one of these. Thanks.

These are all pretty much universally rated as some of the best performers in that price range. Or you could go to a totally portable unit like
